Hello Seattle Folks,
Job 1 owner here. I made an appointment with my dealer in two weeks to do the stuck 1.7.1 update, 21P22, and bluecruise updates.

However, since I am only taking the car in for software updates, I am fully expecting them to push back, not do all of the updates, or just flat out turn me away..

Before investing in power supplies and FDRS and Dongles, I just wanted to take a look around the area and see if someone has done these updates successfully and wouldn't mind sharing their time/equipment and help a fellow owner avoid the dealerships.
I can reimburse however you would like (food, money, etc).

Feel free to send me a PM so you're not publicly advertising yourself and get bombarded with questions/requests..unless you want to.

Thanks in advance!

I just finished updating my car. The process took me ~16 hours across 4 days. Nothing is difficult, but there are so many clicks, restarts, downloads, and waiting for the car to fully power down that it takes FOREVER. I ended up buying 2 FDRS licenses and finished just in time on the last day of my 2nd license. I was only able to work nights and had to be sure that the car was usable in the morning so that slowed me down. I think you can get this done in two (2) eight (8) hour days so 1 license should be enough assuming you don't hit any roadblocks.

I can't say that I'd recommend doing this yourself. The reason is that 16 hours of mind numbing work is too expensive overall. Let Ford pay the dealers to do this for for you. I spent $1200 (including sales tax) on all the hardware (mongoose cable, power supply, USB adapters, and Windows 10 laptop). The laptop was $259 (used from a recycler in Kent). I had installed FDRS on my Windows 11 laptop and assumed that it worked. (Windows 11 may work if you installed FDRS/FDJS under windows 10, but since I hadn't installed it before it wouldn't install correctly for me.) $1200 + 16 hours of labor (even if pay myself $25 adds another $400) is just too expensive.

That being said, I don't see the dealers having a high success rate. If you can find a dealer that's successfully done a few Mach E's/F-150's that would be best. The techs just won't give enough attention to your car and will likely take short cuts and/or skip steps. Not to mention that if the shop bay has a slow network connection, slow laptop, or needs to share the 50amp Power Supply, the install times will be much longer.

At a minimum make sure you have fast internet in your car with the hood up, have power nearby, and are in a dry environment like a garage where you can leave your car for 30-45 minutes (1 update for Image Processing took 6 hours) at a time while the updates are installing.

An experienced tech can likely shave some time off of the process and if they have a VErsion 3 OBD2 adapter that will go faster. You're definitely looking at 2 days minimum for the dealership if the tech only works on 1 car. 4-5 days if the tech runs into trouble or is doing other things.

If anyone is interested in doing the install I can share my Mongoose adapter and USB adapters. I have a 20amp power supply I can share, but you'll likely want to get a 40amp+ supply or else you'll end up with a bad 12v battery that will need to be replaced soon. (I used a 100ah battery along with the 20amp power supply but the battery in my Mache lost some capacity.)

At this point I'm not looking to do this work for anyone as I can't guarantee that your experience will be exactly like mine and wouldn't want to be responsible for bricking anyone's car. I don't mind answering questions though in case that helps.

P.S. I have an early job 1 car with build date in March 2020. I had not received a single update and had to do the CSP fix for cars not receiving the 1.7.1 update first.

I just got my GT the 21P22 updated at the dealer. Took ~ 3 hours and billed under warranty work.

Im excited to get the revised 80% charge cliff but sadly there doesn’t seem to be any change to the infotainment. I’ve still got the original climate controls format and no additional games in the menu.

I took my car into Sound Ford a few times. They should now be able to do all the updates on your car without too much trouble. My BC is now working perfectly. I have a 1st Edition.

Checking in on this. I have a 2022 that was delivered earlier this month with the maps already expired. My dealer says they can't get the car in until the beginning of March. Seems like a relatively simple GWM update, but I don't own a Windows computer at all, so I'm kind of stuck. Debating seeing if another dealer locally can get me in sooner, but is there anyone local with FDRS that could do this?
