For the life of me I can’t figure out why Apple Maps routed me 10 miles past one of my preferred charging networks to Buffalo Ranch in Afton, OK. Unknown network with CCS charging units that appeared to be relatively new with power but would not connect to my MachE. Fortunately I had enough charge to make it to Tesla chargers in Joplin, MO.

This is a downside of Apple Maps' charger routing. It doesn't give you options as to which chargers to go to, nor does it allow you to force it to go to a specific charger. This somewhat obviates the newly available preconditioning feature (for MMEs with the latest SYNC update) when routing to a DCFC charger. If you want to go to a different charger, you need to manually select it as a stop, and since Apple won't consider it a charger destination, (I'm pretty sure) it won't precondition. Ford nav has the same issue, sadly.

Thanks to @E90alex, you can choose to route to a specific charger on your iPhone. It looks like you can also add a charger while en route and it will adjust the other charging stops accordingly. (So if you have it route to a preferred charger, it won't then also make you stop at the charger it originally selected for you. This is a big improvement over previous charger routing!

You can, but it has to be done on the phone and prior to starting navigation.

Thanks. Didn't know that. I'll try it for my mini-roadtrip next weekend...

EDIT: I just did some testing and it looks like you can make changes on the fly too. I did that via my phone (I'm sitting my my living room, not driving in the car). Haven't yet confirmed if it can be done from the car, but I'm guessing it can.

I wish Apple would add a feature that ABRP has: being able to set the desired minimum battery level for when you arrive at your destination. I find that's very important since having enough juice to do whatever you want to do at your destination is a sadly oft-overlooked but very important part of the puzzle...

I believe once you have it connected to CarPlay and navigation is active, the Maps app on the phone just becomes a turn list with no way to edit it and the only option is to end route.

They still need a lot of work on this part of the app and allow more changes and options while in CarPlay.

Good point. Apple Maps on the iPhone wouldn't be useable at that point to edit the route. You might be able to add charging (as opposed to other types of) stops from CarPlay, but I've not tested that yet.

YES! Let me change the arrival percentage! 20% does not fit all!

It's the main reason I still use ABRP, but I don't love their driving directions, so I end up mixing and matching across services. It's a PITA.

Google Maps on Android does what you're talking about (replacing a charging stop with a perferred location while navigating) very well when running Android Auto. It's a really good implementation, I think it's based off all their testing with Android Automotive being built into cars.

ABRP has a lot of features that I really like but I don’t have the Bluetooth dongle for live updates. Apple Maps surprised me with an alert that I could reroute and make it to my destination without a charging stop. I was tooling down the Will Rogers Turnpike at 75 mph when the alert popped up so I ignored it. Upon some reflection the proposed route would have taken state and county roads in the dead of night. Not my kind of trip. I am guessing ABRP would have provided a similar alert.
