Audio problems with connected phone calls

I occasionally rent my ford Mustang Mach-E Select RWD out on Turo when I don't really need to use it.

I recently had a guest who mentioned that she had her phone connected to the car audio and took a few calls through it when on a trip from DC to Philadelphia. She said that there were several times the audio kind of crashed to where there was lots of white noise and she could not hear the person she was talking to. She said this happened multiple times.

I also have had an experience where I'll hear a weird crashing sounding noise when I, for example, get a text message and then the display switches back from the text message screen it shows back to the navigation. I wonder if the problems my guest was having were related to that.

Has anyone else experienced these kinds of issues?

I just had this happen the other day, what your guest described with a kind of static on an incoming call and not being able to hear the caller. Then a couple of outgoing calls where I just didn’t hear anything and had to re-dial.

I've had this happen also with 4.2.2. I'm now at 4.2.3 and hopefully it was fixed.

I've been experiecing similar issues (22 MME Premium Ext AWD). I normally drive with an Android connected via Android Auto. I've done wireless and wired connected, removed and re-added my device, and have even done a factory reset of my SYNC interface. This happened to me after either a really late 5.x update or early 6.x update (since around August 2023). Primary phone is a Sony Xperia III running Android 13.

Audio and speakers are fine as Waze/GMaps both give directions normally, radio is typical quality, and music from Spotify is crystal clear. However, taking/receiving phone calls just give constant harsh white noise and static. It's the equivalent of a dial-up connection over a jammed walkie talkie. If I shift the call over to speakerphone (audio now coming from phone itself), it's a normal call. It does not matter if it's a standard phone call, VoIP, or app like WhatsApp, Messenger, or the like.

The interesting part is that any iPhone connected have zero issues over CarPlay, just when I attempt calls with Android Auto.

I had this issue also but figured it out.

For the longest time I had my car connected to Carplay but car play disabled. When carplay was setup but not enabled call quality sucks by default. You can fix it by changing the auto quick from Bluetooth to Speaker and then back to Bluetooth. An annoyance for sure but I got quite good and swapping it so most of the time people on the other end didn't notice.

I now use carplay and my issue has gone away. Not sure if this will work for all but figured I would share.

My 23 GTPE does the same . I’ll get a call and it’s like they can’t hear me and I can’t hear them either . A lot of static . I’m taking mine next week since I also drive mode not available .

Been having the same issue for a few weeks/month now- phone calls sound fine when dealing directly on the phone (so I know its not a phone issue), but when it is connected to the car through carplay the phone call audio is just static hell, and no one hears one another.

I just purchased 2023 gt mach-e off the dealer display floor. It had sat there since since june 2023 . I got my first software update 4.2.2 and mow my incoming phone calls ring do the same thing after my

Not that I have seen and I'm having a similar issue. If I go to speakerphone, I don't have call problems. Music and other audio works fine.
