Howard (PA27) this is from the Ford Mach-E repair manual on the operation of the Heated Seats:

Heated Seat Operation:

This system allows on demand, independent, electrical heating of each front seat.
The heated seat system consists of the following components:
● Seat cushion heater mat
● Seat backrest heater mat
● HVAC module
● Touchscreen (contains the heated seat buttons)

The driver and passenger heated seat control buttons and indicators are located on the touchscreen. The heated seat system functions independently from the vehicle's climate control system (except when the seat(s) are in AUTO mode). Each time the heated seat button is pressed, the system will cycle through the following modes: AUTO, HIGH (3 indicators), MED (2 indicators), LOW (1 indicator) then OFF (no indicators).

When activated, the HVAC module supplies voltage to the selected seat heater circuit. Each seat cushion heater mat and backrest heater mat is connected in a series circuit to the HVAC module and powered by the output circuit for that seat. The HVAC module monitors inputs from a temperature sensor located in each seat cushion heater mat, and maintains seat temperature by cycling the heater circuits on/off. The heated seat remains on until the heated seat switch button is pressed to cycle the HVAC module off or the ignition is cycled OFF.

When a seat is in AUTO mode, the temperature of the seat is automatically raised or lowered based on the current termperature control settings on the HVAC climate settings and cabin conditions. The applicable heated seat button indicators will illuminate depending on the intensity of heat that is currently being commanded by the HVAC system.

Remote Start Climate Operation:

Different climate control modes/preferences can be selected when the vehicle is started using the remote start feature. This can be accessed through the message center. For additional information on how to set the remote start preferences, refer to the Owner's Literature. When the driver seat and/or passenger seat is set to AUTO mode, the driver/passenger heated seat activates in full heat mode when the outside temperature is less than 0° C (32° F) any time the vehicle is started using the remote start feature. No heated seat adjustments are recognized during remote start operation.

Thank you, exactly what I was hoping to learn!

Sorry to revise an old thread...

It's 82 degrees here right now. Why are my heated seats and steering wheel on when I get in and start the vehicle? Realized it a mile down the road. Seems wrong. This has been ongoing issue that I can't figure out.

Still hugely puzzled by the heated seats/steering wheel. Recently it was 73 outside and remote start also turned on my heated seats and steering wheel. Then two days in a row with it being the upper 30's, remote start did not turn on either. Car was not charging at any of these times but had over 70% battery. Sure would be nice to have them turn on when needed and not turn on when definitely not needed. Anyone know/seen this?

The other day it was 57° out, and the heated seats in the steering wheel were warm. Two days later when I drove again, it was 82 and I noticed my butt getting hot. I noticed the heated seats were on again for my side. So I went into the settings on the big screen under the remote start and I took the checkmark or the little slider off last settings and I forget what I put it to manual or whatever but next time I get in the car after I do a remote start We’ll see if that resulted, but look under the remote start on your menu settings.

The AUTO setting is only seldom saved for the passenger seat. Did anyone experienced this in their MME?
The driver seat setting is OK, does not loose the AUTO setting, but for the passenger in 90% of the cases after starting up the car it's not on AUTO anymore, it's turned off.

Yep, just got my 21 this winter and the auto heated is great when its cold, not so funny when it's hot out and you realize after a couple blocks of a remote start to cool the car that the seat heaters are on high.....
Still working to find the right settings. But thinking that Ford/my car is an **shole.

I turned them off since it got warmer outside. Can't really get the logic they used in programing this.

Well I have played with ALL in car settings that had zero effect but the ONE thing I found out is that the Ford APP settings DO work and apparently overide any in car settings for remote start. Turned off the heated seats and wheel in the App and worked as expected.
Hope that helps others.

Where do you see the option in Ford App for heated seats when remote starting, I feel like I looked everywhere and can't find it.

Tap "Climate Settings" after the car has started, it will let you set cabin temp and switch wheel and seats on or off.

Thanks. I didn’t think to look after it was started because the setting seems to carry to pre-conditioning as well.
