Avoiding Dumbed Down Spoken Directions in Android Google Maps

For the first couple of years that I used Google Maps on my Android phone in my Mach-e I would get detailed spoken directions from the app. For example, it would say, "Turn right at the stop sign onto Sesame Street." Now it just says "Turn right at the next intersection." Most of the time this is not a problem, but too often the ambiguity can be distracting, especially when the announcement comes two short city blocks before the necessary turn.

So my question is: is there any way to go back to the more detailed spoken instructions?

Settings > Navigation > scroll to the bottom and choose Detailed Voice Guidance

I just set my VPN to a country that has a non-addled Head of State. (please support your aging!)

Yes, that's the Great Lake. Of course, I'm talking about the little-known, not-so-great lake right next to it.

It made me check my GMaps settings, that toggle was set to off in mine, yet I get details like 'in 2 blocks, turn right onto Peachtree St.' and 'After the stop light, turn left onto Rhinecliff Ave.' And, I didn't see any settings in the Google Maps in the car...

I tried this and it didn't make any difference. I noticed that this setting is for walking, but was hoping that it might affect vehicle navigation.

I wish GMaps and the Ford app gave me that much spoken warning. While it does give me the graphic diminishing distance, the spoken announcement seems to happen right at the turn.

It may be one of those things that varies city by city...
I remember in the past, it would wait until you were on the same block...
