Base Platform of a Mach E

"A Mach E is just a heavily modified Ford Escape". Or so I was told on another blog. I have considered several EVs. I don't intend to reply to the person on that blog, it isn't worth it. But I am curious as to how accurate he was. My suspicion is that an automotive engineer would find the statement seriously misleading, almost to the point of being a lie.

I recommend you write a post that says:

"I asked the Ford engineers and after they stopped laughing, which took awhile, they told me to "tell the internet experts it is in fact a heavily modified Ferrari" and the laughing started again.

I have been looking at three possible EVs
Lyriq - availability and software problems
Cybertruck - several strengths, as well as weaknesses
Mach E - my first car was a new red 1965 Mustang , 289 engine, likely the one I most likely will buy, although I would like a little larger vehicle

I am not a fanboy of any of these. I am pursuing information on all three and checking overall satisfaction with current owners.

And I suppose their point was to disparage the Mach-E somehow by insinuating it’s not on a purpose-built BEV platform? Whomever they are they need to learn a bit more about how the automotive world works these days.

Now, had they pointed out that the Audi eTron Q4 is just a churched-up ID.4 they’d have a pretty strong argument

It was a disparaging comment on other blog forum. It seemed not to have been invented out of whole cloth, so I asked on this thread, and received a couple very satisfactory replies. The long and short, as previously mentioned, is that using an ICE platform, heavily redesigned, resulted in a good platform, but about 100 kilograms heavier than an optimized platform. This does not strike me as a big hit.

I traded in my 2020 escape for my 22023 mme premium. They are COMPLETLY different.
Although they both have 4 wheels, a steering wheel, and 2 pedals.

rk - you provided no information, nor a useful analogy. See the earlier posts by people who did provide information. The Mach-E is about 100 kilograms overweight, about the same as one passenger - not bad, but not quite optimal. I am looking at 3 different EVs at this time, and post on here to gather data. At this time I still think the Mach-E is, as produced, better than the Lyriq or Tesla truck. But not perfect, nor do I expect any vehicle to be perfect.

Depends on your definition of 'heavily modified', which is a really vague statement. You could apply that to almost any vehicle of similar size/style.

They all have 4 wheels, different wheelbase, length, width, height. structure, feel, tautness,
Etc.. and why does anyone care.

I wasn’t able to find that, but I wouldn’t worry about a 5% weight discrepancy. @HuntingPudel probably has that much in kibble in the trunk (hence why he needed to offset the weight of the glass roof with a metal one ?)
Just tell your partner to drop some weight and you’ll be fine ?
