Nice! This could be a valuable mechanism to provide battery lithium without destructive mining. It expands available sources beyond the user of geothermal brines (https://www.intechopen.com/books/th...ke-brine-underground-water-and-geothermal-wat) -- one of the other green sources of lithium. Let's see how well it can be commercialized and what better sources can be found for cobalt.

I wonder though if ocean life needs lithium in the water. I guess an issue for another day.

True but it's more a question of trade-offs: does ocean life need lithium in seawater more than they need to avoid their water being overheated and acidified?
