So I finally got 1.3 on my ‘21 yesterday and got to test it out (yea!). It really is a great improvement. But I was a little confused by the lane switching indicators.

When in full BC hands free there are now chevrons next to the car in grey (“<“ and “>”). But I guess I’m not sure what they mean.

They look disabled to me. I thought they would light up when I could use the lane change functionality, but I always seem to have that.

There was only one point while driving around when one disappeared when a vehicle was in the lane next to me. Other times there were vehicles it stayed there.

Additionally when in the far left or right lanes the chevrons were still there despite there being no lane to go to (I did not try switching, I’m not crazy).

I did see the “lane change available” pop up once or twice.

So what, if anything, do the chevrons mean? What triggers the pop up since I can change automatically without it?

Other than this, huge fan. Way better centering. Lane changes are nice. And “scootch over for truck” is fantastic.

From my experience, it will only pop up and tell you "lane change available" if you are stuck in a lane that is going under your target speed for some amount of time.

I think the <> icons are supposed to tell you visually lane changes are available (i.e. no cars in the adjcent lane to block you). Mine seem to work as expected. It doesn't direct me into lanes that dont exist. Perhaps there is a bug in yours?

This video suggests that the "Lane Change Available" message shows up when you are driving behind a car below your set speed.

The “stuck behind a slow car” idea would fit pretty well I think with when I saw the “lane change available” pop-up.

I just got the update but it seemed like to me the chevrons light up when it was shifting in the lane away from a truck

I wish i could turn on the slow down for curves only, and not for speed limit signs also.
Same. That’s such an incredibly weird design decision. Given the speed limit sign auto-set thing is actively dangerous I’m surprised they even kept it.
