This isn't even for my Mach-E, but I know the guys in this forum will know. I have a NOCO Genius 10, and I don't know what is going on with it, but my wife's car was sitting for a while, and we got warnings when we started it that the battery was low. Put the NOCO on it, and it very quickly seemed to indicate that the battery was charged. Left it on overnight, it indicated it was in trickle mode. Disconnected it and started the car, and the battery is still low. Anyway, not sure what is up with the NOCO, what other brands/models do you all recommend? Thanks!

I saw similar problems with early charge termination on the NOCO during my testing.

Schumacher SC-600A, have had it since 2014 and still works like a charm.

+1 for Schumacher. I bought SC1281 for ~$50 on Amazon and it works great.

I use a battery maintainer from a company called Granite Digital. Excellent product, yet not well known. I keep my tactor, motorcycle, and zero turn mower on their maintainers year round. Been using their products for over 12 years now since the Battery Tender brand went off shore and started to suck eggs.

So I was kind of looking for a thread that talked about the 12 V battery in the mustang is it OK to pop open that little door and connect the battery tender to it like you do with your motorcycle? Is there any harm enough as far as over, I’m sure it’ll cut out and won’t allow overcharging, but I just wondered is that a practice among the electrical vehicles?

If you're talking about the emergency jump leads in the bumper, those aren't connected to the 12V battery so you can't use them to charge the car. You have to remove the frunk covers or drill holes to access the 12V jump/charging posts.

For more info about the 12V battery, see this: https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/12v-battery-faq.32744/

Yeah, I popped off that cover where I was able to take off the negative cable that time we were talking about the blue Cruise resetting the modules so I’ve done that step one time I haven’t taken off the whole cover under the frunk but just that cover where you can get to the negative battery post it’s scary popping that off. I think I’m gonna have to get me a prybar for the plastic instead of popping it off my hand. I really don’t like it. It’s better to do it when it’s warm out cold kind of scary, so my question is they said if you can never get into the car, you pop open that area on the front bumper and you hook up a jumper cable from a jumpstart box where is that connected to that opens up that car?

So to remove the frunk covers I put on leather gloves and try to get my fingers as close to the clip as possible before pulling up on each clip. It gets easier after you've done it a few times.

The emergency leads in the bumper are connected to the front trunk module (FRTM) and only power the little DC motor that pops open the trunk. That's all it does. 12V system has to be accessed under the frunk covers.

Thanks it’s a lot of good information about that battery so that battery saver that was being advertised is that something you could put on that battery and trickle charge it or would that not be recommended? Also, I was reading an article. I think you might’ve wrote it so if the doors are locked, you can get into the vehicleup those cables in the front end will unlock the car too. The batteries dead or does that just allow you to get to the battery and then charge the battery so you can get in the car

My recommendation is that you don't need to touch the 12V battery unless you are going to leave the vehicle parked for months, or you have a specific problem with the 12V battery that charging may resolve. Cheap trickle chargers can cause more harm than good.

The front emergency leads will not unlock the vehicle. You will have to jump start the battery first, then use a key fob or PAAK to unlock the doors if they are locked.

Yes, as I read through your article, you sent me that what I’m gonna call Battery Bible, the King Lee edition lol I saw where you’re gonna be driving the car all the time you’re probably never gonna need it which it’s my only vehicle now and it’s not gonna sit still for more than a day at a time so I’ll always be driving it at least 300 miles a week, So I’m not gonna worry about it the one thing I was looking for which I saw is as long as you’re charging the car or driving the car 12 V battery is charging as well so that’s good news. I appreciate all the help. I’ll leave you alone for the night and keep reading. Thanks a lot.

Just curious, what is your background? Are you like an electrical engineer? I’m just curious how you’ve learned or you know all this stuff about all this it’s really interesting. I’ve always been a gas powered muscle car guy cook on a submarine for 20 years kind of a jack of all trades but a master of none especially when you’re on a submarine you gotta know everybody’s job but I might know the job but I can’t do the job lol you know what I meanbut I eventually taught myself computers and retired from Hewlett-Packard/Eds

Battery maintainers do not "trickle" charge batteries. A trickle charger is a completely different type of battery charger. Battery maintainers can stay connected to an automotive lead-acid battery for an indefinite time period. Trickle chargers will slowly boil off a lead-acid automotive battery and damage it.

The internet consistantly gets the operating parameters between "trickle chargers" and "battery maintainers" confused. Most people don't know there is a difference and just throw terms around without knowing any better.
Thank you so with all the knowledge, I’ve gathered about the 12 V battery in the electric Mustang. I think I’ve determined since mine will not sit more than a day and I don’t keep my keys close enough to the car and I drive it like I said pretty much daily, but 300 miles a week, and I charge it either at a station with my complementary or my home charger. I guess the battery will stay charged up. I’m glad I heard about putting it in the accessory mode. I didn’t even think about that because I tend to when I think there’s an update out there so I’m gonna leave it on for now .
