I've seen a few cars on the road whose third break light flashes when the car brakes hard. For clarification, I'm not talking about Pulse or lights that flash every time you touch the brake. Is this available for the Mach-E through a dealership or is there a software upgrade that can accomplish this? Thanks!

Never seen a vehicle with a third break light. If the car is broken, I guess that makes sense.

A Google search will reveal that it's mostly an add-on designed to rip people off. Mach-E doesn't do this.

By third brake light, I meant the light bar centered between the tail lights. Maybe broken... lol.

I found the same information regarding add-on devices, which is why I was thinking more along the lines of the Mercedes Benz adaptive brake lights.

Just curious to see if this is possible via a software update (perhaps based on the 1PD accelerometer) or if it is specific to certain OEM braking systems only.

The Mach-E does not have a light bar between the tail lights. The third Brake Light is above the rear window. It does not flash. Just comes on when the other brake lights do. There is no programming for it.

I've heard it both ways.

Sounds like this is an OEM feature for other cars that is not currently available for the MME. I find this a little surprising, specifically in 1PD, as the brake lights come on based on an accelerometer. One would think additional light sequences could be added to the LCM based on variable deceleration rates, but maybe I'm just too optimistic. or ignorant. or both.

Not an attorney so I will not comment on legality. Not an electrical engineer so I will not confirm or deny that this will work on the MME but... There is a module that one can buy that is added into the brake light circuit which will pulse the CHMSL 3 or four times when the brake pedal is applied. It is sold by iJDMTOY. It sells for 12.99 USD and here is a link. Anxious to know easy it is to install on the MME if anyone does it. https://store.ijdmtoy.com/collections/wiring-adapter-harness/products/wirng-harness-adapter-aa1188
