How are heat dissipation openings impacted by salt water / slush sprayed on messy roads?
Hi RickMachE

that’s a very great question and I will try to explain it to you as best as I can.

The way these Heat dissipation openings work is that it’s microporous membranes pressure vents which means.

Inside the pony logo you have:
• LED
• A small driver circuit
• Sealed housing

When the LEDs on the pony are on:
• Electronics generate heat
• Air inside the sealed housing warms up
• Warm air expands
• Pressure inside increases

If there were no vent:
• Pressure would push on seals
• Seals would weaken over time
• Moisture would get sucked in later
So pressure must be controlled.

The vent contains a microporous PTFE membrane

Important properties:
  • Millions of microscopic pores
  • Pores are much smaller than water droplets
  • Surface is hydrophobic (water-repelling)
Typical pore size:

~0.1–10 microns

Water droplets:

Much larger than that.

When pressure builds inside the logo:
  • Air molecules are tiny
  • They pass through the pores
  • Pressure equalizes

Internal pressure ↑ → air slowly exits → pressure stabilizes
This prevents stress on seals.

Here’s the clever physics:
Water droplets:
  • Are much larger than the pores
  • Have surface tension
  • Are repelled by the hydrophobic membrane
Even when salt water splashes the front of the car:
  • The droplet hits the membrane
  • Surface tension prevents it from entering
  • It beads up and runs off
Unless extreme pressure is applied (like very aggressive closerange pressure washing), liquid water cannot pass through.

but now the question is , what about salt water ?
Salt water:
  • Still behaves like water in droplet form
  • Still too large to pass through
However:
  • Salt residue can accumulate on the outside
  • That can slightly reduce airflow over many years
  • But it does NOT usually cause ingress
Hope this clarifies any concerns , and shows the engineering that goes into this pony.

Update: I put in an order and the rear ultimate is already on the way. @Brucelan was getting back to me with questions in minutes and was super helpful. should have the new one installed next week. I will put some pictures here when I do to show everyone.

My overall impression: I really like it. I had tried to paint the top of my old pony to keep the glare down on the rear cam. The new one just works great out of the box. I haven’t hooked up the white light yet. On my old one I never bothered due to the interference with the camera. With this one being much better I think I will give it a shot.

Will this work with your "ultimate non-GT 3d grille"? and any discount for buying both at same time?
If you clicked on the links you'd have the answer to your second question.... $50...

I believe the answer is yes these do work with their non-gt grille. I know the old page used to specify as such.

Hey Fellow Mach E’s

I’m beyond excited to share that I’ve just received something seriously special, I’m officially the first beta tester of the “Ultimate” illuminated pony logo for the Mustang Mach-E! From BSKT Design 🤯🔥

The package just arrived, and I honestly felt like a kid on Christmas morning opening it up. Seeing that iconic pony brought to life with full illumination is on another level. The craftsmanship looks incredible right out of the box, sleek, modern, and perfectly in tune with the Mach E’s bold electric personality.

There’s something about combining that legendary Mustang heritage with futuristic lighting that just feels right. It keeps the spirit of the pony alive while pushing it into the electric era in the coolest possible way.

I can’t wait to get this installed and see how it transforms the front end, especially at night. If it looks this good unmounted, I can only imagine how stunning it’s going to be once it’s glowing on the car.

Huge honor to be the first to test this “ultimate” pony version from BSKT Design . I’ll be putting it through its paces and sharing updates soon. Stay tuned , this is going to be epic. ⚡🐎

@Mustang-Vader, where are the heat dissipation openings on the ultimate pony? Is it in the front or back?

Would putting paint sealant, a ceramic coating, or even car wax affect the membrane's ability to dissipate heat? I use products with SiO2 when washing my car so I am wondering if I need to be mindful of how I wash the car once the ultimate is installed.

Also, in comparison to the OEM lit pony, is the ultimate pony as robust or even more robust than the OEM one against the elements? I know that the ultimate is backed by the lifetime warranty, but I am curious to know from a technical standpoint the differences between the two.
