Just did my first road trip. 4 hours/220 miles one way.
I have a 2023 rwd er premium.
I used the apple CarPlay + navigation and about 15min in the GPS started getting janky. It showed me off the road and just kept getting worse and worse. I restarted the phone and bounced the CarPlay setting on my phone and that fixed it.

Then 15min later, same thing. The phone gps started drifting again. The car gps was fine, I switched over and no issues there.Even on my phone though, directly on my phone the gps was drifting. MyGPS has never drifted before, ever.

anyone experience this before?

yes, lots, try searching for lots more folks with same issue.

TLDR: I think it is due to car and phone update issues. I found that deleting the carplay entry in Settings > Phone then repairing solves it permanently.

Still experiencing this with CarPlay and 4.1.3, it’s terrible.

Did you try what I suggested?
I didn't want to but trying it now. I just hate having to set up my CarPlay Home Screen all the time. Crazy Apple doesn't back that up.

Yeah it's a bug caused by Ford but I suspect it won't happen often, it's probably related to upgrading their CarPlay code.

Where you charging wirelessly? If yes, that may be the problem, iPhone tends to overheat (and act erratically) when charging and navigating and playing music, all at the same time.

I finally did this a couple days ago and while the performance is better, it's still not what it should be, IMO. But I'll keep testing -- maybe I'm expecting too much? 🤷🏼‍♂️

I'm not sure what's going on with your issue... What I described worked for me and I'm not having any location sensor issues these days in CarPlay...

No one knows what's going on with my issue! 🤣

But seriously, I'll do more testing. Do you leave your phone in your pocket when you drive? Or do you place it somewhere in the car? If I put my phone on the Spigen MagSafe mount by the center screen the GPS works pretty much flawlessly. I experience the GPS issues when the phone is in my pocket. For reference I have an up to date iPhone 14 Pro.

Mine is always in the center console.

Does this fix also repair when unable to start carplay while in the car? So intermittent, about 30% can’t get CarPlay to work.

I just upgraded to 3.6.1 if that makes any difference.
