i just noticed that CarPlay apple maps was very flaky - not recalculating routes and the location going between a dot and an arrow, etc. then i noticed my wife had partially sat on her phone, tucking it in under her thigh so she doesn't "lose" it.

i moved her phone to the center console near the chargers (but not on the chargers, they are terrible) and the GPS/maps immediately started working better.

i had an iPhone X that had a lousy GPS, so it's possible that some phones need a better look at the sky and need their antennas unencumbered to work right.

I deleted and re-added phone and it’s not better.

I’m thinking it’s an iOS 16.3 issue…

I can reproduce it without CarPlay before I added my phone back.

We bought our Mach e in August and this has been happening the whole time. We use 3 different iPhones and have gone through multiple updates and it still happens. It's better when wired but still messes up sometimes. Wireless it is useless.

Where you charging wirelessly? If yes, that may be the problem, iPhone tends to overheat (and act erratically) when charging and navigating and playing music, all at the same time.
I tried on the charger and not. I did notice my phone got very hot on the way up there when the bug first occurred. On my trip back home, I tried leaving it in the cup holder (near the wireless charging, but not charging as it's not close enough) and the same bug occurred in the first 10min on my way back home.

You mention playing music, although I don't use apple music, I was using Audible through carplay so that is another app running that could use up resources as well.

I experience the GPS issues when the phone is in my pocket. For reference I have an up to date iPhone 14 Pro.
I upgrade from an iPhone XS to the 14 Pro a little over a month ago and have been experiencing this issue since. Have deleted and re-added the phone in the car, no difference. I think it's an issue with the GPS setup in the 14 Pro. Hoping Apple can get it fixed with a future software update.

I don't want to get my hopes up but Wednesday night I got the 4.1.2 update and yesterday and today the CarPlay navigation was flawless. It always had a problem so maybe the update fixed it.

as mentioned above i had an iPhone X that had a GPS problem. i used this app called GPSDiagnostic and another app called GPS tracker to collect data to show to apple. GPS tracker was useful because it plots all the fixes on a map and you can easily see the lines going all over the place on the bad phone. GPSDiagnostic is good because it shows signal strengths. i could put my X and my Xs on the kitchen table and show clearly that the signal strengths on the X were much lower than the Xs.

in the end i'm not sure apple accepted any of this as proof, and i had to go back to the genius bar a few times, but in the end they agreed to replace the motherboard under warranty.

I have a 2023 Premium Extended. I've been struggling with Navigation using Apple Maps or Waze. I've been on the phone multiple times with Apple as I've also experienced this problem in my other cars with the same phone (iPhone 13 Pro). I've erased my phone two times and restored, re-added to the car and the problem always comes back. Apple decided a repair was needed, but I didn't get AppleCare this round and downgraded to a spare XS. Same issue. Super frustrating.

Weird. For me, this issue only persisted a day or two after connection. It eventually found the "correct" GPS location, but took 10-15 minutes each time it happened.

I say "each time" because I had to completely reset FordPass + PAAK/Bluetooth once.

What update is on your car? 4.1.2 or later?

I have SYNC 4 Version 2280_PRODUCT Revision: 592. I have hit update and am finding no new updates. I like my car, but the issue with Apple Maps not working is crazy - this to be the biggest used App for those with iPhones. Would be nice for Ford to acknowledge they are aware of this and are working on it. Does Ford realize that they are also a software company?

Everyone else lose car play audio down to nearly muted if using the in car nav?

When the ford nav prompt comes on all other audio from car play is turned down to 1. And will not turn back up.

For what it is worth, I used to have this issue all the time, but I think that my drifting off the highway issue has not re-appeared since I stopped trying to use the wireless charge pad. I just plugged in a USB cable from the rear seat center console ports and charge the phone while I drive. I am still using Wireless CarPlay, just not wireless charging.

FYI: 4.1.1 (and/or 4.1.2, 4.1.3) have fixed all of the connection issues I was having with wireless CarPlay and now it connects promptly and so far 100% success rate.
