Carplay vs A/C

When the car is warm and the A/C is on CarPlay impacts the flow of air from A/C. If I receive/make a phone call the A/C goes down and does not blow as hard. So, I have to sit and sweat while on the phone or it takes much longer to cool the cabin down. Is this a setting or normal behavior due to pulling juice for two competing accessories?

This is part of the CarPlay protocol for every car that is equipped with it, not just Mach-E. I’ve never had an issue with it though and I’m in Florida. It turns down the fans so it makes it easier for the microphone to pick you up.

Yup, it’s designed this way.

You can manually increase the fan speed, at the risk of a bad sounding phone call.

Pretty easy workaround though.

It’s not CarPlay, it’s the car. It does it with regular old Bluetooth calls and the cars voice assistant too. Any time the car knows the mic is in use it drops the fan to reduce noise, pretty ingenious actually.

You should be happy they had the chips to install to make it work. it makes hands free calling possible.

If it's really hot and I don't care about the fan noise I just tap the auto button and it goes back to normal while on the phone.

This brings up an ancillary issue of knowing when something is a bug or a feature. I still haven’t figured out when the puddle lights are supposed to come on. I’ve seen them a couple times but have no idea what I did to make them appear.

It’s a standard feature now across most cars with a built-in microphone for phone calls. When you activate the voice assistant (Ford or Siri), the car slows down the fans to make you more intelligible to the microphone. My Acura RDX did it, my Honda Odyssey does it, and so does the MME. This is a regular thing now.

Thanks so much for the insight. I definitely was not complaining. Just curious to know why it slows down. The reason makes perfect sense. I appreciate the finer details the engineers thought of!

When it is 100 degrees, and your just beginng your drive,, I also find this annoying!
