This is the IPC of new $600k Ferrari 12Cilindri Supercar that was just released. Notice where the speedo is located.

Oh my god! It is an abomination! What are they thinking? Seriously? Did they even talk to potential customers?

It's where it'd be visible to me while driving. Over on the right side, though? Not so much. Thanks for posting this, though, @EasyPass. This definitely tipped the scales in the Ferrari 12Cilindri Supercar or the new Nissan Leaf quandary I've had. I'll be in touch with Ferrari of Hawaii first thing in the morning. :p

Ouf, regardless of placement of the icon, it looks so bad! Why not use a proper OLED screen and having the open spaces pure black as well as more esthethic pleasing icons / speedometer. It reecks cheap.

And let me guess, no manual option, pretty much eliminating the need for a large centered tach?

The car looks to be in "Race" mode, so there's a decent chance that the display looks quite a bit different in Normal or Comfort mode.

I just saw this on Ford Obscurity:

“In a leaked internal memo, Ford prepares to cancel the Mach E program because it’s too hard to keep the speedometer in the middle of the display and surveys have shown customers won’t buy cars with misplaced speedometers.”

One designer is quoted saying “This is why we killed the Lightning. Customers just couldn’t stand the speedometer being off to one side.”

Obviously ford couldn’t get it figured out since their EV buisness is collapsing. Maybe they should have put something more useful/interesting/fun than some stupid stationary car that only shows you what you already see on the road. Even the Ferrari has something quite useful in their center cluster.

So, tachometer takes preference over speedo! I learned a long time ago that for most manual transmissions, you can read the tachometer in a given gear and know what speed you're doing if you're a purist!

First noticed this in my 1982 Acura NSX which was hard to get out of second gear because 2500 rpm was 25 mph, 3500 was 35mph etc. Because they bult this street version of the race car with titanium heads (and gave you an ignition key made of titanium to remind you), redline was 8500 rpm! So you could basically drive in second gear from 20 mph (2000 rpm) to 85 mph (8500rpm) and never look at the Speedo. At 70mph, you had a choice of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th gear, depending on the desired degree of acceleration /deceleration or mpg.

Now our EV beasts are quicker, and with agressive one pedal drive settings they simulate driving around in 3nd or even first gear for decelerating/acceleration, so Speedo becomes important!

My 2006 Porsche Cayman S is still going strong and is our only remaining ICE. It favors the tach placement dead center over the speedometer off center. But cleverly has an insert in the center of the tach with a digital speed readout, so you get the best of both worlds.

And a centered speedometer at that!

They better kill all F150's. I believe they're all like that. My 25 f150 hybrid has the speed to the side. Should I request a buyback?

Nope, the Italian Stallion comes standard with Paddle Shifters with the option of either Automatic or Manual shifting. The selected driving mode changes up the dash layout substantially.

Our 2020 Raptor has it centered, although you can rearrange things if you like. Imagine that, choices.

Absolutely. If Ford can’t keep the speedo in the center of all their vehicles there’s no hope for the company.
