Charger and installation

Hello everyone, I’m about 2 weeks out(presumably) from buying my first Mach e, and electric car in general. I drive about 80
Miles a day from work and I’m looking at a nice used GT near me. Since I can no longer get the free install and charger on a 2025 even if was new, I’m debating what to do. Part of me wants to buy a charger and get it installed before I buy the car so I don’t have to worry about my daily work commute after I get the car. Does this sound like a bad idea?

My next question is what chargers do you guys recommend. I was just gonna do the ford charger but maybe that’s not a great one? I saw stuff about emporia, chargepoint, grizzl-e. I’m in the Midwest so I want something that can withstand elements even though it’ll be in a garage and I don’t know if I need tons of features due to the ford app. I’m open to all ideas, suggestions and advice as I start this fun new adventure in my life.

Check with your local electrical utility and see if they offer rebates on any specific brands. I have a ChargePoint, have had it for about 9 years. No problems with it. Once you get one, then schedule an electrician to come out and install it. And plot out where the local public chargers are, just in case.

I belive I can get a rebate on the installation itself through. Comed, but they also offer rebates on the charging units themselves?

This sounds like a fantastic idea! Do it! It generally takes a while for an electrician to get you scheduled and get the supplies and permits, so get this sooner rather than later.

Correct, not for everyday use.

Any decent name-brand wi-fi connected charger will have all of the features you need and be rated for outdoor use. Inside your garage is a non-issue.

There is little need for a WiFi charger, just let your car control when and how far to charge. Time of use settings are based on your provider's rate plan.
My Emporia was bought on Amazon, and APS in AZ provided a $250 rebate.
