Tax credit for installation

Hi All,
Im aware of the 30% federal credit for installing an EV charging station at home. I do believe I’ll be fine just adding a 240v outlet, using fords 240 plug and don’t need faster charger like juicebox.

Would I receive the tax credit for the 240 v outlet installation by itself or only if I have a fast charger installed as well ?

You can get the credit for the outlet. Just make sure you have it done by the end of the year since we don't know if it will be renewed for 2022.

If the outlet is "dedicated" to your EV then you should be fine; the fact that you will plug in a "free" charger shouldn't matter. If you do buy a charger now you will get 30% off that as well.

Noticed that you are from Long Island, NY. If PSEG is your provider you can also score $500 rebate from them on the EV charger also.

FYI

my utility Gives a 450 rebate on charger purchase from them but you have to use charger at least once in first 90 days or you have to return rebate.

also take a look at the rules for the tax credit, I believe it says you have to put it into use, but I haven’t looked in a while

Aware. They take it right off when you order juicebox or charge point from website. Ends up being about $180 .

The 30% is a federal non-refundable tax credit. If you spent $950, you can get a credit for $285 plus $7,500 for the car, or $7,785. If your tax liability, Line 24, exceeds that amount, you're good to go.

SCE in SoCal has a “marketplace” for EVSE, but not really any good deals. They do have TOU-D-PRIME time of day charging rates - proof of EV ownership required.
