What’s the deal with charger overhead on the Mach-E?

In other words, why does a 40 amp charger show 9.6 kw on other cars but only 8 kW on a Mach-E?

I know FordPass doesn’t show what’s after the decimal, but what is likely after the decimal?

8.6 kW? 8.8 kW? 0_o

FordPass reported "6 kW" for this charge but my OBD2 was reporting 6.96, so it's far from exact.

I think that FordPass is showing what kW’s are reaching the battery (after charging losses). Not what kW is being drawn from the wall.

Yes, FordPass 4 truncates the kW display.

The other cars are lying. 9.6 kw on a 40A EVSE would have to be 100% efficient, which is impossible. 8.6 would be about 90% efficiency, which is reasonable.

Ford software always truncates, it never rounds up. They do exactly the same thing with mile/kwh.

FordPass reports 7 kW for a 32 amp charger so it must be a little less than 10% loss, I guess.

8% loss would report 7 kW (7.07) for 32 amps and report 8 kW (8.8) for 40 amps.

Thanks very much for your help.

At 34A my ChargePoint reports roughly 8.2 kW while FP says 7. If I remember correctly the OBDII was showing like 7.6-ish kW.

Either way, EVSE shows what it's drawing from the receptacle, FP shows what's hitting the battery, minus the decimal. Which I find slightly annoying.

Also realize that the charger in the car controls the rate. Just because you have a 40A EVSE doesn’t meant that the charge rate is 40A. The car can throttle the rate. The only way to know for sure is to measure the current. Some smart EVSEs will provide the data.

I see a lot of discrepancies between what the Emporia (set to 40A) reports vs what FordPass thinks. I can see the total power when charging (at peak) is around 9.5kW. My last 100% charge showed a total of 49.9kWh (Emporia Vue in the panel) of which 49.4 was reported by the Emporia charger - it sometimes misses a few beats due to Wi-Fi drops. However, FordPass reported 53.9kWh, which seems unlikely.

The next charge, to 90%, Emporia charger 43.156, FordPass 40.3. That makes more sense to me but still probably off.
