What is the general consensus on storms (predicted electrical) and keeping your MME on a Level 2 charger?

heading out of town for a few days and would normally leave it plugged in at home in garage(not leaving it at airport, no covered parking) But with storms projected this weekend was thinking to play it safe and not have it on the charger.

thoughts on electrical storms and leaving it plugged in unattended?

If you're in an area prone to power surges from Lightning strikes, unplug it.
If it's fully charged to your set level, unless it's going to be below freezing for days on end, there is zero reason to leave it plugged in - it's not doing anything.

Yeah, leave it unplugged. At moderate spring temps, there is no need to leave it plugged in.

After reading the below thread, even if there's a chance of rain, I don't plug in. Always before and after bad weather for me.

as mentioned, why leave it plugged in if you won't be using or charging it?? And especially if storms are eminent?

I would not actively charge during a thunderstorm, but the power is disconnected when idle. You would typically only incur damage if your house or pole outside was directly struck.

Staying plugged in while idle is a very low damage risk, probably not worth worrying about unless you have an extreme lightning storm. Unplugging is up to you.

If you were charging while the storm hit, I would stop the charge.

A whole home surge protector is also a great idea for many reasons.

Once I upgraded to 240v I typically only plug it in a few days a week, so never bothered to find a similar 240v solution, but I'm sure they exist.

If you are only out of town for a few days, there is no reason at all to leave the car plugged in. The battery will not lose enough charge to make it necessary to have L2 on standby.

Twice I’ve gone to bed and saw the red ring while unplugging. Only happens when a lightning storm pops up and passes through, usually during the night. As I wear hearing implants I have them off at night so I don’t get awakened. Both times the charge will connect after and no damage was done. I assume it has a built in surge protector.

An old thread, but I came across it searching for relevant content. With the heat wave happening here, we've been getting days where it's clear and sunny in the morning, and thunderstorms in the afternoon. We'd been out & about the day before, so the car was plugged in overnight to charge (level 2), and when the thunderstorm passed over the panic alarm was triggered. A food reminder to me that the car was plugged in, so I rectified that situation when I cancerlled the alarm. Bottom line - it seems like a good idea to unplug the car with a thunderstorm going over
