Any options you're aware of as far as type 2 that does NOT require adding breakers? My panel only has one open slot left.
The surge protector has to connect through a breaker, so no. If you have 2-pole 20A breaker in your panel already, you could potentially use that if your breakers are listed for double-tapping (such as Square D). Otherwise you can make some space by replacing a couple 15 or 20A breakers with tandem breakers that use half the space. An electrician could probably make it work in your panel.

This. Make space at top, left or right and if it's square D an SPD will fit right in there.

Not only deals with power surges from storms, but failing equipment and other interior surges that could cause issues. Got one installed when I swapped out my main panel.

Only takes two spaces, at top of the box, so if it comes in from outside, it'll soak up the surge before it gets to lower spaced breakers
