Hoping someone can help...new owner. Have had the car 1 week only 200 miles on it.

Charging limit set to 80% on both the car and the Ford app. Last drove the car on Sunday. Came home plugged it in and it recharged back to 80% as programmed that afternoon.

Live in Phoenix where it's hot again and the garage faces west. Car has been in the garage on charger since. Sat at 80% Monday and yesterday when I checked on the app in the am.

Took the car this am to drop off for tint, ceramic and ppf. Car was now charged to 100%. Settings weren't changed. Husband did say he hears the fans running yesterday afternoon, figured the car read the garage as hot and was cooking itself.

Our utility has demand charges so car is set to charge both on the car and in the app during off peak. Can see on the utility site that the charger mist have come in around 1 yesterday and run for a couple hours due to reflected demand spikes.

Cannot figure out why it went past the 80? Both car and app still show setting at 80 today. Last charging log shown below. Time seems off as I unplugged the car around 8am and not 1am. But even so why would it go past the 80%?

Have been trying to find some documentation on this all morning with no luck.

Anyone able to offer some insight? Certainly want to figure this out so we don't have the car always charging itself to 100%.

I just recently had this happen: My son took the car for a ride, plugged it in when he came home and it immediately started charging. It only stopped because at the beginning of the charge window (11pm) it noticed that it was already over the set point (70%; it was at 92%).

My suspicion is that sometimes it takes the car a little bit of time to figure out its at the charge location and ends up just defaulting to the "charge to 100%". If you give it a sec before plugging in so that it can realize "oh wait I know where I am" it shouldn't do that.

Of course it could also just be one of the many glitches.

Can't answer the OP's question, but this is exactly why I bought a smart charger. Sometimes you can reason why something happens, sometimes you can't. My smart charger won't charge the car until my off-peak hours regardless, and the car shouldn't ask to be charged. I found with my Fusion Energi that I couldn't trust the app (MyFordMobile) or the car.

@RickMachE which one did you buy. I've been thinking about the Juicebox 48 since SRP offers a discount on them. We are set up for it just need to swap the breaker to a 60A...I'd prefer not to go off the demand rate as we have that dialed in to keep cooling costs low for the house itself...

Double check in FordPass that you don’t have “Charge when plugged in” selected. It should have "Use preferred charge settings" selected. (Go to Vehicle > Manage EV > Charging Times.)

The other part that was wonky for me was when my charging schedule was set to 'anytime'. Check your schedule, if you have either the weekdays or weekends set to anytime (12am to 12am) try changing it to only be 23 hours per day. That worked for me when my charging was acting goofy.

JuiceBox 48.

Reasons:

1) JB or ChargePoint Flex are the only ones I get $500 back on (just came in today's mail, only submitted it 8 days ago).

2) Cost difference between a 40 and a 48 was $30 + tax (actually $21 with 30% tax credit). That's 20% faster charging when I need it.

The electrical company that installed my circuit is also an authorized dealer, so he had some in stock (of course they only had a 17.5' cord, but JuiceBox is resolving that soon).
