Why do you need to "start" an EV? I can see turning on the AC or defrosting windows, but what is the advantage of "starting" it?

I had a PHEV and people complained about lack of remote start on that, too. It had remote AC which is all I think anyone really cares about when you get down to it. You just want the car to be comfortable and ready to drive when you get in it. You don't need to warm up an engine

Agreed - I think people generally mean "turn on the AC/Heat" when they say "start the car." Really, regardless of its go juice.

And FordPass currently isn’t a complete solution because you can’t open the frunk with FordPass. It’s like they WANT you to use both at the same time ?

yes, you are "starting" the HVAC system remotly. that is the only reason I remote start my F150. And I can do it across the parking lot (hold the remote under your chin as you point at your vehicle, it expands the range, don't ask why I don't know. But I used to remote start from the train platform and that really made the difference)
