This is such bullshit. No adapters, letters or gift cards will outweighs the decision of locking core functionality of a 60 000 dollar car behind a subscription. It’s just petty at this point.
Not to make any kind of excuse for any of these shenanigans - but it can DEFINITELY get worse.

Audi's new A3 in the EU will be a subscription sink hole:

but now you'll have to pay an in-car subscription fee for basic features like high-beam assist, dual-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control, and smartphone integration.
And yes, that will be a subscription option to use Android Auto or CarPlay.

Or you can just purchase any of those features permanently—although Audi doesn't say for how much.
Until we find out what those actually cost, it's hard to say if that's better or worse. But even then, would that be a "permanent" purchase for as long as you own it or for the life of the car?

Nooo don’t give them ideas! Soon they’ll charge you for every time you open one of the “cards” in the infotainment systems, same for clicking the frunk button, the sketch app is billed by centimeters drawn on screen, radio billed by the minute, blue cruise by meters driven with it enabled (quadruple if anything above version 1.0) and a subscription to enable adaptive cruise control D:
