Consumer Reports is pretty impressed in their first drive of the Mach-E. In my experience they are never too kind to Ford, so I was pretty surprised by their honest joy in driving the car.

Found it interesting in their ā€˜range’ discussion that 210 became 200 then (I think) under 200.

Wonder if the younger kid got the car after the older guy took it around their test track. No mention of what consumption rate he actually experienced. Maybe behind the pay wall.

Wow, CR actually said positive things about a Ford. I believe I feel some chest pain! Seriously positive impressions. Not sure how they Rented a MachE, as I'm not showing and "Rentals" of the vehicle available, but hey, I'm not CR either.

They did say they rented from Ford. Likely a way to remain independent and not have to disclose that Ford was providing the vehicle for review etc...

You mean your local Dollar rent a car doesn't have a Premium AWD ER ready to go on the lot?

My dad was a Consumer Reports subscriber since the 70’s and he gifted me a subscription when I was a teenager. I have been a Consumer Reports subscriber ever since-almost 30 years. I love the content for the most part but I have always felt a bias against American manufacturers. And it isn’t just cars. My dishwasher died last month. It was a Bosch I purchased 10 years ago off of their recommendation. It worked great for a decade, however due to the pandemic they can’t get parts. So I had to buy a new one. Again Bosch is their top pick. There is not a single Bosch dishwasher left for sale in the US after COVID. I decided to go Jenn-Air. Made in America. It blows to Bosch out of the water. It’s no comparison.

Very pleased with this review
Very pleased with this review. I was a little surprised about their comments on battery usage. it seems different from what the other battery threads have indicated. Did anyone else watch that section?

I watched it. That Ryan guy talked about being disappointed, when on a cold few days, his screen only reported around 200 or so miles at full charge. Then a comparison was made with the Tesla using the EPA numbers. Did he not know that the cold affects Tesla range as well?

I'm looking forward to a mileage shootout to settle matters: Tesla long range vs. MMe ER. Smaller battery vs. bigger battery. Can the efficiency advantage of the Tesla beat the bigger MMe battery in range? Alex?

I was sceptical when the dealer said the expected range will increase once the car learns about mileage and usage. But after 2 weeks in my car and almost 800 miles, my MME is now displaying 350+ real world range on a full charge. There are now hills in South Florida and it’s been consistently in 70s/80s this last two weeks. And in my experience so far, the shown range is fairly accurate or even on the cautious side.

My parents subscribe and I flip through the magazines when I visit. I don’t know if they have any bias, but I don’t find their reviews to be as reliable as the experts who focus on one particular area.

For example, I’d trust CNET over CR when it comes to electronics. I’ve seen a few CR evaluations of TVs that raised my eyebrows. Same for appliances - I don’t think CR is very strong there.

I specifically remember a comparison of electric lawn mowers. I bought two prominent models to test them out and there was a clear winner in my opinion. CR disagreed. CR is wrong.

I know CR places a heavy emphasis on cars, so maybe they’re better in that regard.

Lol I’ve never trusted CR. They’ve always had biases. Against Ford, against American manufacturers, etc. a famous example were their reviews of the Mitsubishi Eclipse and the Eagle Talon. Literally identical vehicles. The Mitsubishi was the sine qua non of automotive engineering excellence and quality manufacturing. The Eagle Talon was designed my a bunch of high-school dropouts during a blackout weekend in Vegas, and was haphazardly assembled by workers who had no interest in producing a quality product ? CR is about as objective as American news outlets ?

ER RWD. I really wanted the increased speed of the AWD but being my first EV I reluctantly opted for the slightly better range instead. I’d have preferred to wait for the GT but it only comes with the black interior and I wanted the light grey. Overall I’m very happy - especially if the glitchy screen gets fixed.

Yeah-I had the same opinion when I placed my order. I ordered an ER RWD for that same reason, and then I regretted not getting AWD when I saw the performance boost. I ended up getting a FE reservation under the Mach Drop program, but regretted it when they cut the price of the premium. I love my FE, I just don’t know if I love it enough to justify the increased cost.
