I'm a renter in a small building that doesn't have any chargers. I have the option of one outlet in the garage and the landlord's permission to use it. However the people who have that parking space refuse to switch with me. So I actually have 2 issues. Is it worth it to spend $200 on a J1772 extension cord to charge? And is it ok to have the car charging continuously? The landlord has a plug in hybrid and does that for herself. Whenever the car is parked, it's charging. I work from home so there would be lots of charging time. This is not my only option, I live in LA and there are lots of L2 and L3 chargers near me so I won't have a problem getting charged. However charging in my garage would be the easiest and cheapest. Legally I'm allowed to have a L2 charger installed but I would have to pay for it (there are rebates) and the cost to have a plug added at my parking space might be prohibitive even with rebates. For now I'm curious what other people's experiences are with just plugging into an outlet.

If that's the situation I would just buy a regular 25' 12 gauge extension cord and run it to your spot. Your cords can't create tripping hazards or be run where people will drive over them.

No it won't hurt anything to L1 charge all the time.

Good luck dealing with the neighbors.

I can run the extension cord along the back wall so no tripping hazard.
