Customized my Mach-E steering wheel

Looking good Andrew, we must have got a wheel from the same place - I haven’t had time to put mine in yet but I’m itching to.

That is awesome! Yea I waited a good 2 months because my car was at the dealer for small issues. Great taste in selecting Forge Carbon! Let me know if you figure out a way to remove the original airbag cover to the new alcantara one. I would like to know!

Like the OP here, I also really liked the pre-production steering wheel that Ford had shown with the space gray interior in their pre-release press photos, with the space gray trim on the lower section; and like the OP, I decided to have that steering wheel style replicated. I ordered one for my wife’s Mach E as a surprise for her, using a new Mach E steering wheel so she could continue to drive her Mach E without knowing I was having the new wheel re-covered in the pre-production style. I was really pleased with the finished result; but unfortunately, the surprise was on me…when I showed her the new steering wheel and how the space gray on the wheel matches to the space gray color of the seats and the dash trim, she politely told me that she thought it was nice but she preferred the original steering wheel. So much for my effort to surprise her with the custom steering wheel, but at least I hadn’t installed it yet. At any rate it is now listed for sale in the Interior Parts section in the Member Marketplace segment of this forum, if anyone is interested.

Installed mine today! Love the look, took 3 months to get it after ordering, but worth it. Thanks to Mark Boris for the help with the install. Took about an hour, easier than others that I have done.

I created this thread 4+ years ago when I purchased my first Mach-E and had my first customized steering wheel made. Since then, I'm on my third Mach-E and 5th steering wheel design. This one is a bit funky but after using it a few weeks, I have really grown to like it. Unlike a yoke wheel, it has "horns" at the top which I wanted because my hands are in the 10 & 2 position most of the time. The black leather on the wheel and airbag are glove soft and the lower part is trimmed in gray Alcantara to match the interior dash, door panels and seats. The lower switch trim is forged carbon fiber to match the door and dash trim. BSKT created this wheel for me and it was kind of my prototype. After using it awhile, I think I'm going to have another one made with slightly shorter horns (12-15mm) that are angled back 45˚ at the ends instead of 90˚. I might have them trimmed in Alcantara with the entire wheel having a bit more foam padding. Haven't decided yet.

Wow, that's really cool, Mark! Good idea with the horns. Don't think I'd like a yoke wheel that stops at the airbag cover like Telsa's. It's nice how it gives an unobstructed view of the gauge screen too.

It’s not odd - I saw couple similar designs. I saw one that used end of horns same material as on the middle of the wheel. It looked stunning. I believe it was option on Chinese EV. I told Miguel about it, but can’t find video where I saw it

I think you need a type rating on your pilots license to operate that thing Mark.

i like the idea that end of the horns finish material is same as lower part of the wheel or some elements. I tried to highlight it in this picture.
