Dealer showed up at my door (2 hours away) said they need to take my MachE for recall, or they will "Deactivate It" - WTF

I found out that as long as it was not financed with Ford Credit then there will not be an issue with the title as the DMV process and Ford recording the sale are separate paths. Eventually though the DMV info will need to match the sales info or a flag will be raised. Probably what happened in this case. Sloppy administration no matter what.
Yes this is exactly where I was going with this. I fully realize that the OP has had the car for 7 months, I was just pointing out that the wheels of commerce turn a lot slower than most people know when it comes to things like financing and titles. So like I said it would be a full 90 days (or more?) before a lending institution even got curious about the title.

If the dealer needs it back so bad, why don't they send a tech with a tool box and just do it at OPs house? It's not even that hard of a fix!

You can get support from them to schedule the rework to be done appropriately. They are customer experience specialists - I think your situation qualifies as an extremely bad and unprofessional customer experience that they should follow up on and fine the dealer at a minimum. Unbelievable the dealer had the audacity to threaten you with “disabling your car”, which is not even possible as far as I am aware.

Just be aware you will lose much if not all of your leverage over dealer if you go this route before getting them to give you something in return for this problem they caused.

dealership said they are getting fined $40,000 a day from Ford for not getting my car recall remedied. NHTSA shows no open recalls, Ford Pass shows no open recalls - but supposedly my car is unsafe to drive. I have asked for the recall be put in writing which they (Preston Ford, DE) said they will have tomorrow and bring me a loaner so that they can take my car. Has anyone had a similar experience? BTW, I had the OTA successful update for the high voltage connector done weeks ago.
IF i was you i would call Ford corporation. consumer complaint line. 1-800-392-3673

It’s not a scam, we’ve confirmed it has the seat belt recall, they never did it before selling the vehicle, and the vehicle still shows as unsold in Ford’s database even though he’s had it 7 months. Should have never left the lot and it’s unclear who actually owns the vehicle at this point.

I would ask if they could come and do this as a mobile repair, it’s simple enough. That way you don’t have to hand it over.
I caught that later as I read more replies. When I first read the post, all I could picture was the valet guy in Ferris Bueller's Day Off whom he gives a "fiver' as a tip to take good care of the Ferrari.
