In the past few weeks, CarPlay is causing all sorts of problems with my car. I can no longer listen to the radio or SiriusXM. It will play for a second, then switch back to CarPlay. If I don't have the phone in the car, no problems at all. But, have the phone in the car and wham - no native media at all.

It's an iPhone 16 PM with iOS 26.1. Never had this problem before the latest update, and Apple says it's a Ford problem, as I expected. This is not happening in my wife's Audi, so I suspect they are likely right.

With the glacial pace of software updates, this is likely to be a long-term issue. Has anyone else experienced this, and were you able to get past this problem and have some audio stability in your Mach-E?

Have you tried rebooting Sync?
Right arrow and volume down button on the steering wheel for 10 seconds

Ali, yes, several times. Also sent repeated resets to the SiriusXM radio via their app.

If you already rebooted the Sync then you probably already have rebooted the phone. I have to do that and close open apps when I have som issues with CarPlay. I have iPhone 15 with the 26.1 OS. I have been using serious lately with no issues like you describe . When I have CarPlay issues I reboot phone or check to see if the car is doing an update.

Historically, most of the issues related to CarPlay and this car have been Apple issues, not Ford’s.

There might be an app on your phone that is trying to play some sort of media, like an advertisement. If I pull up Reddit on my phone (not while I'm driving) and I scroll past an advertisement, the radio will switch over to CarPlay for the advertisement audio.

A very logical suggestion. This is happening even if I have all apps terminated, only iOS running. It's really strange behavior. I've rebooted everything I can find. Perhaps time to trade in for a 2026 GT!

Are you connected to CarPlay via WIFI or cable? If WIFI, you can turn off WIFI on your phone to prevent CarPlay connection.

You can also try to delete your car profile from CarPlay and your phone connection from your car's phone screen, then re-pair it. Haven't had to do that in 3 years or so, but it was a pretty common fix for a number of issues in the early days of Sync4

Yes, next step would be to delete the phone from the car and the car from the phone and set it up again.

in the phone, you’ll need to delete the car under Bluetooth, CarPlay and inside Apple Maps.

I've set a reminder to reboot my phone once a week and now have far fewer issues.

Ever since the most recent over-the-air update which fixed the 12-volt battery problem, my CarPlay connecting is pretty much a 80/20 issue. 80% of the time it just will not connect, and then 20% of the time it does connect after I start driving and then maybe 20 minutes into the drive it'll work. The only way to get around this right now is to use a cable which is really annoying.

Most, though not all, of the Craplay issues over the past 4 years are directly caused by Apple.

This is the correct answer. It took me a long time to diagnose this and finally figured out that, if any “media” was trying to play on the phone (say a safari page had a video on it, or you were watching YouTube), CarPlay would keep trying to take over (about every 5 seconds), until you closed the offending app on the phone.
This also happens with Bluetooth headphones- people will be listening to stuff on their AirPods or whatever then, when the car comes into range, the connection is seamlessly transferred to the car. Took me a while to figure out why I was having problems with phone calls when my car was at the car wash. Apple has addressed the headphones issue with an iOS setting but I don’t know if it would work for this situation.

Yes, Apple has a dedicated team of their best iOS engineers, who go into a secret conference room at Apple Park everyday, just to figure out new ways to mess with Ford/Lincoln Sync users 😀

I’m kidding, but the mental image is funny!
