-pulled 12v+ from battery for a couple minutes to hard reset everything, replaced, SOLVED.

... no idea WHY, since I have not had an OTA update in over a year. I do not do FDRS, so nothing has changed software wise in my vehicle for a long time.
It's the one method that "reboots" (soft reset?) ALL modules onboard. And simultaneously, so that the vehicle has the best chance at all the necessary handshakes across the various busses/networks can succeed.

It's amazing how many issues have been resolved with the technique.

it cracks me up how this parallels old school IT tech support....
'unplug everything, plug it back in and see what happens'.

not in a good way though. it speaks to poorly written and integrated software.

this is a totally different, but important topic.
the MME battery will last 35-40 months, and fail suddenly without notice.
Mine failed gracefully. There were warning signs for at least a few months. I had it replaced under warranty at roughly month 34.

But it's not exactly the same thing.
I could have a 40 node network and 90% of the nodes are running software/firmware written by the same developers. And they have been at the same game for multiple decades consecutively.

The legacy automotive industry is experiencing an explosion of software and technology being integrated into their legacy framework and methods.

My 2012 F150 has 7 "modules" onboard.
My 2022 F150 has 42. Think about that. Forty Two. The shear number of lines of code that are burned into the 2022 vs the 2012?

Then throw in the complexity of managing the lack of standardization between multiple hardware suppliers and the coordination required between them all when addressing that code base.

I've always said that it's amazing when you take one of these vehicles home and discover that everything is working in harmony. Not a single pin in a single harness connector was faulty? At the push of the start button, every line of handshake code across 40+ modules and multiple busses and various protocols and not a single DTC?

I'm kinda stunned at the good fortune I've had with the 5 Fords in the family fleet that are all built in this era. (2021->)
