Hello! We got a 23 MachE Select a couple weeks ago. I find the seatbelt reminder tone and length very annoying.

I found instructions to disable it in the manual here. However, after following them the seatbelt tone still dings when starting the car without my belt latched.

When following the instructions, the red seatbelt light did flash which, per the instructions, is supposed to indicate the change was applied. But, as I said, nothing seemed to change with the reminder.

Like the rest of my family, I always buckle my seat belt out of habit. However, I do not buckle it before I start the car which means I have to listen to that dinging for the 10 seconds it takes for everyone to buckle up.

Is this common or a known issue? The alternative is for me to stop and wait to start the car until everyone (at least in the front) is buckled in. But I'd prefer the noise was eliminated altogether.

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any tips or ideas.

Sorry. I forgot to add that we do not have MyKey setup as far as I know.

I am having the same issue. My'21 did not do this. The '23 does and I cannot disable it, despite following the procedure like you (and getting the blinking confirmation). I performed it 5 or 6 times, but it always alerts.

I think the disable procedure is broken.

You can check your MyKeys under one of the setting pages. It's not the problem as I don't use MyKey either. I've also tried disabling the passenger seatbelt warning too. No luck.

Thanks for the reply. At least this confirms I'm not the only one. Not sure how I will proceed next. Probably not many options. I may attempt to contact Ford or the dealer but I suspect either of those options may require a lot of time with low chance of resolution. However, if I gather any data points of interest I'll post them here.

Make sure you use the Record Feedback feature under Settings > General too!

I experienced same as you and was annoyed by the lousy sound. Best solution is to re-learn and make habit of latching seatbelt first. Takes a while before this becomes second nature. I'm still not use to doing that.

On the one hand I’m relieved to know I’m not crazy. I felt like a kid screwing up the Konami code while playing contra. On the other hand this is super disappointing. I hate that sound…

I think there is a misunderstanding regarding what this does. It disables the persistent reminder while driving, the initial reminder on startup is still there.

I disabled this in my truck because I don’t need my seatbelt on when driving between gates on the farm. I didn’t bother in my Mach, because there is no time I want to drive it without being buckled.

This is interesting. It did not occur to me there was a distinction between the two. I'll verify but thanks for the info.

have you tried the EU way to deactivate?

1. Ignition on

2. Don't touch any pedal

3. Wait until all indicator lights are off

4. Insert and pull out 9 times within 60 seconds

5. A lamp lights up 3 times in the instrument cluster

6. Ignition off

Correct, this is exactly what it does.

The cause of this "misunderstanding"? The description in the owner's manual is wrong.

Ah, that would explain it not working the way I expected. Bummer that the functionality implied in the manual doesn’t actually exist. Oh well…

I don’t think it works here. I tried it in my Lightning and I get your step 5 (3 flashes) after 3 insertions, meaning it has accepted the North American procedure. I went ahead and did 9 cycles to see if anything changed - no luck.

Thanks anyway for the suggestion.
