E-Z Pass Green Discount Plan NY

Has anyone successfully gotten the Green Discount Plan for E-Z Pass?

Green Discount Plan Eligible Vehicle Criteria:

Effective February 1, 2022 the Green Discount Plan will only be issued to Plug-In Electric and Plug-In Hybrid Electric vehicles. A list of eligible vehicles can be found on the NYSERDA Drive Clean Eligible Models webpage

The special green tag should be mounted on the windshield of the qualified vehicle and is not eligible for use on other vehicles. To be eligible for the green discount, customers must first have an established E-ZPass account with the New York State Thruway Authority as indicated by the Thruway logo on your tag. Proof of vehicle registration is required to receive the special 10% discount off of the E-ZPass rate. The Green Plan cannot be combined with commuter plans. Plan Code: (NY GREEN).

I sent in the letter but no response yet. And the irony of having to send a letter for a green pass isn't lost on me...

I was able to get it but it was a hassle. The Mach E wasn't initially on their list so I had to escalate and finally got a green tag. Also the EZ-pass offices are woefully understaffed.

Ahh thank you! It has been 2 weeks, I guess I will see if I get a response in the next week or two and then try escalation.

I got one a few years ago when I leased a Honda Clarity PHEV. I have tried to move it to the Mach-e but so far to no avail. I use it in the Mach-e and my EZ-Pass account shows my usage at the Green Pass rate.

On the e-z pass website I didn't even see an option for the Mach E. Just Ford Mustang which is what I picked because it was the closest I could find.

Finally got it today. Apparently they just ignored my first letter with the copy of the temporary registration. When I tried the escalation they called and told me that they couldn't handle a temporary registration so I mailed a copy of the permanent when I got that and two weeks later a new transponder arrived.

They didn't ask for the old one back. Perhaps they just deactivated it.

I got told I needed a second ez pass account and that some ez passes are thru the thruway authority and some are through MTA. They mailed me an app. Did anyone get this same response ?

No mine was just added to the existing E-Z Pass as a second transponder.

I have three EZ-Passes for my vehicles all on one account including the Green Pass. Whatever road, bridge or tunnel accepts EZ-Pass, you should only need one account including out-of-state.

After much tangling , I got my green E-ZPass had to go buy a E-ZPass to go for the thruway and then open an account there to bypass the mta ezpass

I sent a letter and never heard back and it wasn't obvious to me where to look on the EZpass website, but when I called their help line the woman said I had qualified and she showed me where on the site you can see that it was added. That said, it is pretty restrictive and only applies to off peak times which do not correspond well to when I would be driving through tolls. I don't imagine it will save me much money.

First time I heard it was restrictive at all but I live in upstate NY. Might be restrictive around NYC?

Getting through the E-Z Pass isn't intuitive at all. Logon, then pick Account Inquiries. Under topic select OTHER and subtopic select OTHER. Attach a photo of your registration and explain that you want to enroll in the Green Discount Plan and include a link to https://www.thruway.ny.gov/ezpass/greentag.html. Two weeks later it magically shows up in the mail.

I sent away for it and weeks later finally got it… though it removed a commuter plan and they’re arguing with me about adding it back… sigh

The website says "The Green Plan cannot be combined with commuter plans." so you probably have to pick whichever discount is better.
