I'm wondering why Ford hasn't implemented something like this, it could be an easy win for safety by helping with less eyes-on-screen time while driving.

Basically we just need a visual indication of which airflow selections are currently active, so that we don't have to open the airflow screen just to see.

For example, if I have the feet and defog airflows turned on, they should be highlighted within the icon, rather than just having the airflow icon/button always plain grey no matter what airflows are on. See rough example below.

I was actually just thinking about this same thing this week. My 4Runner's auto climate control was excellent - but it always feels like the Mach-E is just a little confused. I'd love to see indications of what it's actually doing before I make adjustments to the temp or something else.

Even showing where it’s blowing from when you open the drawer when it’s on auto.

I love my Mach-E
And for my climate, I rarely have to make HVAC adjustments beyond fan speed.

But I don't like the HVAC user controls at all. I'm so glad I don't have to fuss with them much because they are one of the few irritants with this car.

Hell, I'd also love for a toggle that shows when heat is on or not next to the A/C button. The auto setting sometimes inexplicably turns on heat when I have A/C on and then I'm left wondering why my efficiency is dropping.

Great idea, and simple. You get the user interface design award this week

They want you to use auto to maximize efficiency, cold air out of the top vents because cold air sinks, and heat from the floor because heat rises, defrost when needed, vent co2 when needed.

It always operates this way on auto.

Believe it or not there are actually vents in the back that pull out air...probably to maximize efficiency.
