Ok, I've had my MME for about a month and took my first trip yesterday. I bought the adapter for Tesla and the night before I left I paid for the monthly membership with Tesla. My charge sessions were easy, but I have a question. I initiated the charge from the Tesla app, as I thought I remembered people on here saying to do that. But I got charged through the Ford app, so I'm guessing I didn't get the member discount I was supposed to get through Tesla. What did I do wrong?

Also, since I'm house sitting for a week, I brought the charger adapter that goes into a regular outlet, even though I know it's crazy slow. Figured if I'm sitting here most days and nights, I can just keep it plugged in. But I don't know how to use it. I neglected to figure that out before I left. How do I connect it to my Ford mobile charger?

Thank you all in advance

It at least sounds like Plug & Charge took over. I can't speak to the specific process at this point, but it sounds like you at least attempted to do it correctly (by starting from the Tesla app). It could just be there's an even more specific sequencing that needs to happen or not happen. Or worst case, if you know you're going to be only charging at Tesla's with their membership, turn off Plug & Charge in the app before you leave. But then that could be inconvenient at other chargers....

So, ya, I'm curious what other input people will have here.

The Ford Mobile Charger should already have a regular pigtail for a 15A 120V outlet. The 120V pigtail sets the FMC to 12A. If the only pigtail you have is the 32A 220V pigtail, do not use it with an adapter. The charger will try to draw 32A on the 15A outlet where 12A is what’s safe to draw. ??

I find the Ford plug and charge override very annoying. I just got back from a 1800 mile road trip and plug and charge always took precedence over my Electrify America app so I always paid the higher rate and have been essentially wasting my $7 a month EA fee.

I used the EA membership in June for a long road trip. I had to open the EA app and initiate the charge with the specific charger I was going to use. Then plug in. The charger screen would then acknowledge me by name and give me the pass+ price

You have to turn off plug and charge in the Ford app, under energy , then access and permissions, then turn off plug and charge, you can then activate Tesla charger from Tesla app and get charged by Tesla with your member discount. if you leave plug and charge on --you will get charged by Ford with no discount. just remember when you go to non-tesla charger to turn plug and charge back on

You can do that to be safe. But you shouldn’t have to.

I have personally left Plug and Charged turned on, load the Tesla app start charge on the Tesla app, Tesla tells you to plug in, you plug in….charged via Tesla with discount.

When you activate via the Tesla app you have to wait…. wait until the Tesla app says to undock the cable and put the adapter on then plug in. If you move too quickly then Plug and Charge will take over.

Not true. I have P&C active and used Tesla many times via the Tesla app and was given the membership discounted price.

I bet others are plugging in before initiating charge with the Tesla app?

You can't blame Plug&Charge for being Plug&Charge if you do the Plug-in first! ?

I would guess that those having problems are plugging in first before attempting to start the charge with either the EA app or the Tesla app. If you plug in first, the car will start and activate the P&C charge through Ford’s Blue Oval Network and you won’t get the discount.

You don’t have to disable P&C.

You DO HAVE TO initiate the charge with the apps first, BEFORE plugging in, even if the app tells you otherwise, which used to be the case with EA.

I use both apps with membership at times and I don’t disable P&C. I keep that for times when I’m not on a big road trip and might need one DCFC on a day trip, for instance.

Or they’re starting the activation in the Tesla app and not waiting until the Tesla app says to plug in. If all of the activation has not finished, Plug and Charge will take over. ??
