Just spoke with a locksmith about programming a key. He said he can do every other Ford except the Mach E. Ford has not released the protocols yet for local locksmiths to program it. He said it may be some time in the future. Hey, for what it's worth...

So not only do they hamstring you by only providing one key, they force you to use their dealer network and overpay to have a second key programmed for when you finally give up on Ford ever giving you a second key to fix/work around their PAAK CRAAP issues...

/thanks Ford

Because two car keys is a basic human right?
No but it has been the industry norm for decades and if you are going to change that because you now offer an alternative entry system you should make sure that system actually works.

keep in mind that these key fobs cost very little and yet they charge a fortune for them. The mark up is several thousand percent and if they are monopolizing access to additional keys there isn’t lot of sympathy for their position

Just had this happen to me for the first time. I updated my phone to the latest iOS version because work had basically said "you really really want to install this security update as fast as possible". For some reason, my phone took *forever* to reboot after - at least 30 minutes. I got in the car while the reboot was in progress, so, of course, no PAAK. Password prompt showed up, but no keyboard. Weird. I was at home, so it was easy enough to grab the fob.
