my question would be 'what functionality of Fordpass would you want to use if you have a Fob in your pocket?'... i.e. why have the App running if you are using a Fob?

The thing that I've noticed both myself and a few threads is that people who have BOTH FordPass and PAAK active (with Bluetooth on)... have occasional glitches as the communication fails to transfer from BT/Fordpass at a distance, then transfer to PAAK or Fob once you all get in the car. i.e. depending where you set your phone, or Fob, people seem to have glitches 'finding the key' to start the car.

Wrapping fob in foil and hiding somewhere in cabin, and using just PAAK, seems to be the least problematic while still having the Fob for emergencies, Servce, and Valet parking.

Certainly another approach.... but foil burrito seemed easier than removing battery and replacing when/if I needed it.
The most common use for me is remote start. I use that maybe 8-10 times per day so the climate control can get the cabin ready for me. My previous Ford BEV had that on the fob but this one makes me use FP instead.

Popping out the battery is pretty easy. 10 seconds maybe....?

But I would still ask, why would you have FordPass running if you also have your Fob in your pocket?
I use the phone app when at work, at home, in a restaurant, etc. I check the charging, start/stop charging, lock or unlock, open/close the windows, start the car to warm/cool the cabin, set a departure time, update a departure time, send an address to trip planner, etc.

Why would I make a point of closing the app, forcing me to have to reopen it later to do such things?

I carry a fob because I have pockets and I don’t want [in my testing, theoretical,] issues of PAAK delaying me. Lately I use my frunk button that isn’t in FordPass but is on my updated fob. From time to time I find it easier to use the fob rather than the app to open all the windows on a hot day. I like to use the fob as I approach to unlock the car from a distance for those passengers that are faster than me or to give the hatch time to open fully before I arrive with my bags. Much easier than fumbling with a phone in bright sunlight while walking across a parking lot pushing a cart or carrying bags.

I set PAAK up to enable the code to allow keyless driving. I trust PAAK to lock the car behind me. I trust it for the rare times I would rather not bring the fob.

My question would be why doesn’t everyone carry the fob most of the time?

I think either I or her pressed the start button or one of the boys maybe got in the car. This would be a bad glitch. Nonetheless, I’ll have her wrap the FOB in foil to be safe.
Thanks for the replies.

Don't use PAAK.
Use the fob. FordPass can be running when you use a fob. Aside from the crazy updates, FordPass works with the fob (not reliably 100%, but as good as it can for the present).
Used the fob/FordPass over 18 months now without ever being locked out or other functions failing.
(But the damn thing will not replace my HVBJB. Nor will Ford. Still searching for that magic wand.)

I had my physical key on me for the first time today since the idiot FordPass support agent insisted I kill my PaaK when I didn’t have the key. I dropped my car off at a dealer to get some stuff done. Not leaving my phone with them. ??

PS I did carry my physical key wrapped in foil in May when I went to pick up my dog. I did not need it. It was buried in my luggage. ??

Having had a Tesla for the last 18 months and frequently experiencing delays in the PAAK communicating with the car when I tough the handle, I'm really looking forward to having a key fob again.

I'll set up PAAK but rely on the key fob. ?

Yes. Setting up PaaK is a good idea.
  1. You have to do that first in order to create a Back-up Start Code anyway.
  2. You might be lucky and it works well on your car.
  3. It will also enable other functions on your FordPass app such as the front hood button and some other things.

Funny you should mention the frunk function in the PAAK. I was working on putting together a potting bench this morning and the MY was out in the driveway. At one point I heard a clunking sound from it. Looking out I saw that the frunk lid had popped open. I had the phone in my pocket and had looked at the Tesla PAAK app so it must've still been active. That was a first for me.

It ruins the line of my Hugo Boss skinny suit.

And, I don’t carry any keys. One less thing to leave somewhere.

Why is that? I haven't had to force close FordPass in over a year and I use the fob always. What sort of problems am I creating by doing this? (serious question as I didn't realize this was an issue....)

Also,
I do have a spare fob hiding in the car. I didn't bother with foil or a faraday bag. I just simply opened the fob and removed the battery. Then placed both in a little plastic bag and hid it somewhere. Even if the battery goes dead, I can still start the car by placing the battery-less fob in the console holder. I've tested it and it works fine. (just another idea for folks to consider...)
I've never set up PAAK...why should I? I've used a fob for over 50 years. If you ALWAYS carry a fob, you'll never need to use PAAK, ever. Yes, I carry the door-code key in my wallet, and I've set up the custom door-code and ignition-code. Uncomplicate your life.

Wearing a suit is one scenario where I would agree the fob could be a hassle.

Been a long time since I’ve left anything from my pants behind. Card wallet, cash, house key & fob. Not hard to monitor

Can the ignition code be set up without enabling PAAK?

But think how much time you’ll save with only 3 items on your preflight checklist?.
