I just recently purchased the fit cam X for my 2023 premium and I’m a little confused about one thing… For any of you that own this you may know but apparently the app on your phone doesn’t work with the CarPlay in your car so in other words, it’s impossible to look at files of your previous road trips when sitting in the car idle and you can’t view what the camera is recording while driving which would give me a sense of security, knowing that the camera is actually working and not having to look to see if the blue light is flashing… Does anybody know if this is the only option or is there a way around this?

You can temporarily turn off Bluetooth on your phone, which would prevent CarPlay from connecting via BT+WiFi. The other option is a second WiFi-enabled device like another phone or tablet. 🤔🐩

You can’t have two wifi connections from one phone. You can be connected to CarPlay via WiFi or your dashcam, but not both. Like how your phone will disconnect from your home wifi when you start wireless carplay. You’ll need to disconnect CarPlay. If you need to constantly stream video from your dashcam, you might be a bit over paranoid. Looking for a blue light seems pretty easy and safer in comparison. You may want a dashcam with a video display to ease your anxiety about recordings.

If you’re trying to review a recording, just connect to the FitCam wifi and be done with it. If you’re trying to use the fitcam as a live monitor, that’s mot hspoening

The FitcamX iPhone app can be used as a live monitor while it is recording. I have a magnetic phone mount attached to the side of my MachE center display. I turn my phone horizontal and can watch the camera live while it is recording. I can easily switch between my front and rear FitcamX cameras on the app via WiFi. You cannot, however view the cameras via CarPlay.

Easier said than done - carplay keeps trying to reconnect, killing a dashcam connection (not a FitCam specific problem - happens with any wifi you might prefer). My solution is to open the Phone List in settings and tap the carplay icon for my phone. It just turns carplay off entirely, and it's just as easy to turn it back on. Not super convenient, but for how infrequently I need to connect to my dashcam, not a problem.

I'd rethink the fitcam though. It seems to be that if you search reviews and reddit posts, they fall into two categories: 95% of people say the camera looks awesome and its pretty well and is nice and low profile and the app works. 5% say "I got in an accident and it deleted the one segment of video containing the interesting part" or alterantely "I got in an accident and found out the hard way it hasn't been recording for months". With and without high quality name-brand SD cards, too. Seems FitCam firmware kinda stinks, in the worst possible way.

I’ve yet to see thus happen in the 4 plus years I’ve had the FitCam. I simply select the FitCam WiFi and look at what I need to look at, then switch back.
