My iPhone XR charges great on it. In fact I noticed that even with a coiled up usb cord between it and the mat, it still charges ?‍♂
It's not magsafe. I would try my wife's X to compare but it has one of those pop-out handles on the back.

iPhone 12 Pro Max and I noticed the same issue when I went for a test drive. Phone would just stop charging after a minute or so

It’s not an iPhone 12 MagSafe issue.

My 12 Pro Max in an official Apple MagSafe case charges fine on the wireless pad.

I have an iPhone XS Max in an otter box defender case. It will charge on the wireless charger, but I get far more heat than charge from it. Since I am unwilling to give up the protection of the case, or spend 2 minutes per trip removing/reinstalling it, I just put a usb-c to lightning charging cord in the back seat USB port and plug my phone in when I need to charge it. ?‍♂

I went ahead and ordered the 3D printed insert and will report back as to how that goes. I'm not optimistic but it was about 12 bucks (shipping cost more than the piece itself!), so worth a shot.

As I mentioned, I think true/fastest charging (especially while using Waze, etc.) is going to require that something be plugged in anyway.

If standing still it should charge (mine does not), if not the insert will not help...

That would be my assumption as well. But I did get stopped at a bridge that was up, so I tried putting the phone where the 3D printed piece seems to place the phone, and it did charge that whole time (a few minutes), which is the longest I've seen it charge continuously. So, we'll see...

My S21+ doesn't charge fast enough when using Android Auto to gain any battery on the wireless, case or not. It will only maintain. I need to plug into the USB-C to charge the phone if using AA.

Not sure because others seem to have had a different experience. I too was having the same wireless charging issue. It would stop charging for no reason after a few minutes. I have the iPhone 12 Pro max with the leather magsafe case. I grabbed my S21 Ultra and put it on the charger and worked fine. Would charge without issue. I then took the case off the iPhone and presto, it charged just fine. So whatever the reason, the leather magsafe case appears to be the culprit. At least in my case. YMMV.

Yeah, I even tried it without a case at all (and without the pad), with the same result. Dunno.

And to report back on that 3D printed piece, it's a cool item that fits in there perfectly, but it has offered no discernable improvement for me. That said, I have a Nomad Magsafe leather case instead of an Apple one, so the phone doesn't fit in the hole exactly perfectly either. I may try to carve it out a little bit... Or just friggin' plug in my phone!

Had the same problem. Ran a cord from the charge plug in console with fast charger. Had to drill a small hole in lower console where crappy charger is in order to run the charge wire up the dash between both screens. It a tight fit, works great. It took around 6 phone cradles orders to find one that would stick to the dash from amazon. Very happy with results.

I have iPhone 12 in an otterbox case and it will not charge for more than a few seconds. I ordered the 3D print piece on the other thread and it does not work with the otterbox case. I simply bought a short usb-c cord and plug in when I need a charge. The usb ports are right there by the phone tray anyway.

I know there is a port there by the tray, but I prefer the look of no cables there. I set my phone on the lid of the console storage bin under the armrest. Less clutter that way in my opinion.

I was able to find a 6 inch cable, no clutter at all.
