R1S and Mach E owner here. I use the app widget for the Rivian, but I don’t think it’s a big deal that Ford doesn’t have it.

Also, my two cents is that Rivian is better from a software standpoint in some ways and Ford is better from a software standpoint in other ways. Rivian’s Driver+ sucks compare to BlueCruise (even the standard hands-on version 1.0). That’s a feature that I care a lot more about than an app widget, tbh.

I don't get OPs comment that we waited months for the updated app and it still has less features than the legacy... we don't have the updated app in full release yet.

I am in the FordPass 5.0 beta still, and it has WAY more features than the legacy app in terms of pure functional ability. I don't want to get slapped by the beta police or anything, but the most recent beta release has functionality people have wanted for a while and was never present in the current public FordPass.

Totally agree they should place the 90kW/40kW somewhere in the display during DCFC.

But, keep in mind that opens another can of worms where people are seeing 150kW on their window sticker, and then are calling their dealer because the car is not requesting 150kW all the time. It would be like the GOM "How come I lost miles of range?" thing all over again.
Better than wondering why the promised 30 min is taking 2 hours.

Oh my!!! I guess I'm out of the loop on this. Sounds very interesting.

I'll agree that Ford seems to have consciously elected to "dumb down" the experience. There are some marketing reasons to do this (like, they expected most Mach-E buyers to be EV newbies), but I wish there were some "pro-level" instrumentation we could unlock.

One thing Tesla provides is that little line across the top of the screen that subtly indicates whether the car is consuming power or generating it back through regen. That strikes me as a relatively easy metric to track. I also wish we had an explicit indicator to show when the battery is preconditioning for a charging stop.
my Maverick Hybrid has that display

Due to the pathetic FordPass and Sync, there is no way I’d recommend Ford’s EV! Never!

Without other EV experience, I can’t compare it to others.
However it seems to me that Ford has no intention to improve either Sync nor FordPass.

I don’t understand Fords inability(or reluctance) to improve the software. Their is stuck in the 90’s.

Being in the tech industry since the 80’s and early adopter my entire adult life, I was an advocate for EVs. I now realize the EVs are not for the mass market.

Despite feeling ‘cool’ with a EV, I regret buying it and should have stayed with the hybrids I’ve had for over 20 years.

my apology to all who read this disagree and will rip me. However this is my ‘unbridled’ view. .

We had an order for the Rivian R1T. But: 1) their prices are still ridiculous; 2) their order process is a mess; 3) I can pick up a Lightning tomorrow; 4) The Lightning is $20k less with better loan/lease terms.

Rivian's app could be perfect, but it'll never be worth $20k. I've had zero issues with the Mustang and the FordPass app is mostly meaningless to me--I use it to remote start and check charge status. We're happy with Android Auto on the Mustang.

We're likely to get the Lightning instead of the more desirable R1T.

It's crazy that some guy from Apple was brought into Ford to help lead Ford's software efforts and I'm left wondering what exactly did he bring to table. Certainly not any of Apple's software updates consistency. Maybe they should hire some software leaders from Tesla and Rivian; stay away from the GM software people.
He was brought in to help them monetize software updates.

I think Ford made a UX decision to show the clock time at which the car is expected to reach 80% in the IPC. For people not active on this forum, or diving into the details of charger output, that may have been a reasonable decision.
From my experience, it's maddening when the clock time keeps climbing because the charge rate is dropping.
I've owned Fords for a while and the company is always cautious to give too much granularity to data. Presumably, the reason is that if you give a number it will increase the amount of people reporting problems, ex: "the car is advertised to charge at 150kw but I only saw X".

Before our Mach-E I saw this on the F150 forums. People would enable digital temp readouts in forscan and then go to the dealer because their trans temp was 10deg higher than everyone elses'...even though it was still in the normal range and 20deg below max.

Does Rivian support Android Auto or Carplay?
No and if they ever add it, it will be a demand lever they pull. I wouldn't hold my breath on it ever coming though, but you never know.
