Well, the “new” replacement Ford EVSE the dealer gave me under warranty lasted all of 2 charge cycles and is now throwing a ”red” hard failure. Unplugged from car and NEMA 14-50 receptacle, waited a while, and plugged it back into the wall receptacle, but not the car, immediately shows “red” hard failure light. Checked my wall outlet, contacts are tight and no evidence of any thermal degradation. Returned 2nd EVSE to dealer, and they are ordering me another replacement unit. I have a Chargepoint Homeflex on order, but won’t be in until next week.
Ugh, this is why dealers need to have 14-50 outlets for testing chargers!!!

Sorry to hear you had this happen. We are on our second EVSE, the first one died after a few months but now at 77k we got the red light of death. No matter if we unplug and reconnect, still does it. I am impressed this one lasted this long honestly. Our MME is rarely charged outside of our home so this is but is not a surprise. Way out of warranty so I am sure there is no luck with replacement for us.

Just a note - the red light will also come on if no ground connection is detected. Doubtful that’s your problem, but should be easy to check.

It has been giving us problems off an on the past 6 months or so. Daily use for 6-8 hours or more of charging it has served its purpose for sure. We are going to upgrade to the Grizzl-E charger, it was difficult to spend a few hundred on a charger when the provided one was, again emphasize was working. LOL

Yeah, that’s why I started with “Doubtful it’s your problem”….but others stumbling upon this thread might find it useful.
Yes! More searchable words to help others! I have been lucky to find help on this forum so often now.

My mobile charger is overheating and giving me the amber light for about 30 seconds before it goes off and then comes back on in another 30 seconds. It appears it continues to charge during this although drops to 24amps before going back to 32amps as measured by CarScanner. I have done all the corrective actions the owner manual outlines to no effect. The bottom line is that it takes longer but that is not an issue.

My question, does anyone know if fluctuation in amps every 30 seconds over several hours causes any harm to the car charging process or the battery? I have no errors from the car so I assume not but wanted to ask if someone knew for sure. I will keep using it until I get home next month as I have a wall charger there. If it is a problem, I can move to DC charging.

I went to Sam Galloway dealer today and they said I need an appointment unless I wanted to leave my car with them for 1-2 weeks. This was after I stopped in Monday afternoon and the service rep said to bring it back Thursday morning 7am. I showed them pictures and video of the charger with Amber light overheating but that was not enough to order a replacement as they need to do the test themselves. They said I can schedule an appointment (end of May) or leave my car for 1-2 weeks and they will see if they can fit it in. Neither are realistic for me. So when I get home next month, I will take it to Zeigler Ford in Michigan to take care of it.
Zeigler Ford was able to replace my charger after they duplicated the Amber error light. New charger works fine now. It sounds like they had a few other customers with similar issue and were taking care of them as well.

So the amber light on my ford mobile charger is on consistently and it won’t charge the car at all. In the past it’s come on occasionally, but would still charge slowly. Up to now it’s worked flawlessly in my garage where it’s rarely hot. Safe to assume it’s probably deceased? Thanks.
