We left home from Pinellas County, Florida for a getaway to Saint Augustine, Florida, a little over 200-miles. I had a 97% Charge when we left. When we arrived, we were at about 30%. The only game in town along US-1 was J-1772 slow charging. The Ford Pass App and said that a Honda Dealer had DC Fast Charging in Network and it was free. It was only 5 miles away. Other Fast Charging was only available in Jacksonville. We plugged up at the Honda Dealer and it was going well. Finally, someone stuck his head out the door with an unwelcoming look and announced that the charger was not open to the public. I told him that my Ford App sent me here and that it was free. He again growled that it was not public and that he had taken it offline. He agreed to let me finish I got an 80% charge in an hour.
So, the moral of the story is just because the App says you can, you may not.

The station doesn't show up in PlugShare, but does show up in FordPass. Ford has been known to add chargers to the Blue Oval Charge Network that are not accessible. Ford just aggregates the charger data from the various networks without much QC, no idea if that station is marked restricted or not in EV Connect's database.

Someone should call EV Connect and report the situation.

Can someone with the EV Connect app check and see how the station is marked?

Similar story, on my drive back from New Orleans to DFW I was directed by the FordPass app to a Porsche dealer with a level two charger. When I arrive there, the chargers were available but you had to pay upfront inside the dealership and it was Sunday. The dealership was closed. I was able to find a level one charger not too far away. It’s spent two hours charging so that I can get to my next destination.

I am leery of using dealership chargers unless I can verify others have successfully used them in Plugshare or other contacts. Had a lovely chat with a Nissan salesman while comparing notes on their Ariya vs my bZ4X (and gave them info on why they should encourage Toyota drivers to get the Ariya), and found a good free 50 kW public access charger at a Chevy dealership in North Bay, Ontario, but I would hate to run into grumpy dealership employees trying to case well meaning EV drivers off. They really ought to just charge high prices for the use of their chargers, though. Allow people who really need a charge to get it, and they have a bit of extra income, while limiting how many people actually use the chargers.

I know now and spoke to a Nissan EV driver at a Comfort Inn. He said dealerships don't like competing vehicles using their chargers. We have had our car almost 2-years and this is the first road trip we had taken. Learned a lot.

I belong to Sam’s Club where my nearest EA charging station is located (three 150 kW CCS chargers at $.48/kWh). Aren’t Sam’s Clubs options on road trips?
