It can be a little confusing, with all the "connectivity" options on my fully equipped Powerboost and Mach-E, just which features depend on which "services". And especially with Sync4 support for multiple phones, there are a ton of different ways to leverage the various options.
I also admit that I am not likely the typical representative, since I have 2 smartphones connected when I'm in either vehicle.
One is my personal phone and I do everything I possibly can to NEVER touch it while the vehicle is in motion. If I can accomplish not touching it, my insurance agent (Texas Farm Bureau) rewards me supposedly.
(There's an app on the phone that senses motion and if traveling at some rate of speed it dings a perfect score if you mess with the phone physically)
The second phone is just a throwdown Android that doesn't even have a SIM in it. It is used for the following functions:
OBD monitoring of various PIDs
*CarScanner in the Mach-E
*OBDlink in the Powerboost
It's the Android Auto source IF I choose to enable Android Auto
It's a Bluetooth streaming source for Audible, Spotify, YouTube if I am not in Android Auto Mode.
And of course I have native onboard Alexa at any moment I desire.
It's amazing that the Sim-less phone can leverage the Mach-E "connectivity" features and provide so much versatility without the necessary expense of a cellular account. So in my opinion the Ford subscriptions are just substituting for those costs?
My primary phone is still providing me Bluetooth phone calls and monitoring my corporate email/text messaging, all without dinging my auto-insurance nanny.
