Ford is still committed to Next Generation CarPlay according to Jim Farley. Hopefully, it will be available for our cars!
He said Ford is committed to CarPlay and Android Auto, but the article specifically says
One thing missing from Farley’s comments today is any indication of Ford’s plans to support next-generation CarPlay

I considered CarPlay a non-optional feature when I was looking for a car. If I am going to be STUCK with a head unit forever, it has to be able to keep up somehow. Previous cars made several trips through the Crutchfield catalog. That is not really an option here. I quite like the depth of integration that Ford has with CarPlay. I respect that Tesla went a different direction and GM appears to be going another direction. Time will tell. Hopefully the license fees for CarPlay will continue to be favorable.

I believe Apple is pretty adamant about never charging manufacturers for Carplay, they want cars to adopt it more so you become more dependent on your phone. Manufacturers (except Tesla, maybe Rivian) want to spend the bare minimum and 5 minutes on UI development (clip art icons anyone?) for their own systems. Ford to its credit has put in a verifiable amount of effort to get CarPlay to be a stable experience (same can’t be said for wireless charging), except for audio issues when using the wire due to aforementioned charging issues.

The reason I have a GT and not a Blazer is no CarPlay and no Supercruise.

Ford committed to the next gen CarPlay for future vehicles. You won't see many manufacturers attempting to roll this out on existing vehicles. Even if the architecture exists in the MME today to allow access to the real time data needed in the vehicle and the ability to project on the IPC, I don't see that happening. It is much easier for manufacturers to design the next gen IPC and infotainment systems around new requirements than trying to back port to older systems.

As an early access member, when I provide feedback to Ford on updates, etc. I have been adamant in my reply’s that if they do like Chevy and make the head unit based on google only and no CarPlay, I will not buy another ford Ev.
