My last two cars had this same issue, one also being a Ford. Why I was really happy when I was able to ditch the cord and use wireless carplay. Only time I plug in a cable is when I need to charge something, otherwise I leave them unplugged.

I have both usb type A and USB Type C cables, both of the ports feel loose. The cables don't seem to be working in the front ports, but when I plug it in in the back ports they both work perfectly. My Iphone does have wireless carplay, and I usually use that. However, when I'm charging I like to plug in my android (no wireless android auto) to watch pluto tv on the big screen.
Tonight tried to plug in using both Type A and Type C ports, both failed.

I had noticed it a while back when I bought an apple type c to lighting cable, it started to act strange, and car play wouldn't stay connected. I figured it was just the cable.
I also tried type a to lighting, and it also stopped working, it was a cheap cable, I just assumed it died.
I’m having the same issue. USB port is loose and has stopped working!

Try rebooting the Sync system that seems to work.
Had my USB-A port stop working in the middle of a drive. I was near my destination, so turned off the car, ran my errand, came back and started the car and all was well.

A Sync reboot would've probably done the same thing.

USB ports being flaky was not on my list of possibilities for a car, given its tech that has been around since the '90s, and I've maybe seen 1-2 bad ports on all laptops, hubs, desktops, servers, phones, etc. I've interacted with since it's been a standard.

I do hope that it's just a software issue, and not cheap parts, but time will tell.
