I have a 2022 Premium that I like very much. My only problem is the visor mounted garage door opener. It worked just fine when I got the car, but a few months ago I noticed that the signal seemed to be weaker. I had to get much closer to the door to get it to work. Now it is dead. I have reprogrammed it various ways. The lights blink as they should, but it doesn't seem to be sending a signal. I have a door clicker that works fine, so the problem is not with the door. I have an appointment for the high voltage recall, so I'll see the dealer in May. Has anyone else had a failure of the opener?

If it’s not working at all, but lights blink, it likely needs reprogramming. I know you said you did, but for me the instructions to program it never worked.

Instructions that work for me-

Step 1- clear it of all codes

Step 2- program it using another clicker that works

Step 3- hit the button to program on garage door unit inside the garage and then hit the button of your newly programmed unit in the car.

You want to do a reset of it (hold two outside buttons for like 20 seconds), then reprogram it making sure to do the full process.

Garage door openers have a max of X devices that can be programmed to open them. Add a device, and one can fall of. Is it possible that you added a device to open/close it and that knocked the car off?

HI there - similar issue it seems - suddenly the button on the visor stopped working. no changes to the actual garage door. Cleared the codes but having a tough time getting the button working again. Tried method from the ford manual and the method on the garage door opener (press learn button then run out to the car etc). - not really working for me So for now, using old fashioned clicker that we have which works to open the garage. Can i use that clicker to try to program the control button in the car? THX!

Yes.

The method in the quote above is the only way I have ever gotten homelink to program in my cars.

Following the procedures in the manual never seemed to work for me. This is with my wife’s Lincoln and previous cars I’ve owned as well.

program the homelink with a working remote, then program the garage door opener to the homelink.

If I just try to program the garage door to homelink, never does anything for me.

Related, I've found the visor opener to be pretty weak in general, and for whatever reason extremely bad at closing my garage door. I can open the garage from the street in front of my house, but I have to be within 10-15 feet of my door to close it. My wife's Mazda has a mirror mounted Homelink that will open or shut the garage from at least double the distance.

It's because the IRR windshield blocks the RF signal from the visor opener. It helps to flip the visor down and hope some gets through the black RF-transparent areas of the windshield.

Thank you very much-my follow-up then is your step 2 and 3 above. How do I do step 2 and then once that is done, seems i press the 'learn' button in the garage and then just press the button for the homelink (hold it down?)...much approeciated!

Any chance you changed your garage door light bulb?
The LED bulbs really do interfere with garage doors. I used to be able to shut my garage from anywhere with incandescent, now only when I'm less than a foot from the garage (I prefer the LED despite the range issue). I can OPEN it from anywhere since the bulb is off.

Yes. But depending on your garage door opener instructions, you may have to hit your homelink button 3x or so to get it to learn.

Update. The dealer tested the homelink device, and decided I was correct in saying it didn't work. They replaced the whole visor. I programmed it by using the learn button on the motor, then three pushes on the visor button, and it works fine. Like any other electronic gizmo, Homelink can fail.

It might be worth checking the battery in the visor opener or even considering an upgrade if it continues to fail. If you don't find a solution soon, asking about it at your dealer appointment is a good idea. Meanwhile, a local garage door repair service might have some insights or quick fixes for you.
The visor has a battery?
