I had an interesting experience today. Was down inside of 50 miles range…which I expected. But, the charging station only went for a few 19kWhs before it gave an error…”Charging Fault. see manual”. Manual indicated a cable or adapter problem. I was at the Hamilton, TX Tesla Super Charger. I tried to move from pedestal 2D to 2C. No dice. Got in the card, searched for a Ford dealer…not enough range to get there. Wheels start going 90 to nada.
Dawns on me…I’m the only car plugged into “Tesla Bank 2”. So, I pull around and snag an outlet on Bank 1…immediately works and gets me all the way to 80% with no issue..

must admit I was momentarily panicky!

Heh, been there done that (not on that station, but that situation). Glad it worked out. These are the kinds of issues that make people hesitant on road tripping EVs outside of their normal ~200mile range. Hopefully Tesla’s diagnostics are being proactive and alerting the maintenance people that there’s a problem.

That's a good time to check the Tesla app and see if some of the chargers aren't working.

Thought the Tesla app required you to connect to a car…no?

No - you start the charge on the app and then plug in - else Ford will grab the session - works well except I found that Tesla's localization was way off and in a BIG charging station with multiple banks you can easily start the wrong charger.
