Here we go again. Last April I had the dreaded “stop safely now” in our 21 Premium Extended

Ford contacted us and had the car updated with the latest patches. This weekend it happened again with a dead car I the middle of the road. Thankfully power-down and powerback on, the car was drivable.

I did get the “wrench” on the dash as well as a “Powertrain malfunction/Reduced Power” in the app. I am afraid to drive this, our Ford Service Dept always goes to voicemail. I am not expecting my rep to call back. Unfortunately, after a couple of on/off the vehicle no longer shows the wrench. Should I just have the car towed there? We need to get this diagnosed before we can get a car rental and this is really very bad timing for us.

Sorry to hear about this. Last April you had it replaced? The timeline could indicate it was replaced with the "old part"--can anyone confirm?

Last April they just did the "update"... I'd love to get this resolved, but just hard to get some traction on this.

Ah that explains it. So the software update "fix" doesn't fix the underlying issue, which is an underspecced HVBJB. The update only lets you know when the part is failing. In this case, you'll likely need to get the HVBJB replaced via the dealer, after which this will never happen again (knock on wood)

Yup. The “update” was just to hopefully avoid the condition where it powered-down in the middle of the road. To fix the issue, you actually have to have the HVBJB (High Voltage Battery Junction Box) replaced. Depending on parts and dealer availability, that’s about a week to a month.

New beefier part did not come out until May 2022. So it looks like it is your turn to get a new one. Go read the thread with all the info if you have not read it yet.

If the wrench went away it may not be the HVBJB, also since you didn't have it replaced this wouldn't be the second time.

This could also be the GSM bug that's possible on earlier models. If it went away on it's on, it's most definitely not HVBJB

The software update came out in Jan or Feb of '22, the redesigned junction box was June/July.

Edit: I was wrong, I swear the recall came way earlier in '22, but it looks like the first notice was in June.

Since the wrench went away I'm wondering if anyone can pull the codes and see if the HVBJB failure code is present. In my 2021 FE I also had a wrench/reduced power pop up very early, but it went away and all was well after.

I received the recall notice sometime in June , I think, and the software update was done in July. I didn’t realize it was available early in 2022.

the part was available in May 2022.

The software update was not available until July-ish of 2022 I sold my Mach E GT in June and I know for certain the update had not yet been released, but it was imminent.

What's the GSM bug? Would the GSM bug stop the car completely?
