Why is the frunk release inside the car a physical lever with a double pull when literally every other release method is electronic? I mean, even if you want to keep it "similar" to a typical ICE car's hood release - why make it a double pull? It clearly doesn't need to be. Even from a safety perspective (and forcing the second pull so it isn't opened accidentally), that can be done safely like the other options by just not opening when the car is moving.

It's the dumbest thing but it's something that I look at on this car and think...

On a more positive note, after getting a Lightning key with an actual frunk button, I'm actually starting to use it. Seems to work well for small grocery/shopping trips when there are just a couple bags so they won't roll around in the trunk. We'll see what else I can do with it.

When the car was first released in Dec '20 / Jan '21 it only had a manual release (although my understanding is the manual release is just connected to an electronic switch anyway). We were under the impression that it was because of regulatory reasons.

Those of us with '21 Job 1 cars waited literally almost 3 years to get electronic frunk release in 6.8.0.

So the hardware's basically the same then, right? These early cars are still able to open electronically once they get that update?

I'd much rather it be a simple button (like replacing the Max Defrost button on the dash - though I think I recall also reading some cars have a different button config to the left of the steering wheel, so maybe that just wouldn't be consistent).

Yes. Assuming that you setup PaaK. Non-PaaK users can't open from the app, only from the door.

Federal regulations mandate a primary and secondary hood latch. Years ago many manufacturers went to the double pull on the inside lever versus single pull inside then stick your hand between the partially open hood and grille and hunt for the release lever.

I had a Prius Prime prior to my MME.
When I opened the trunk an item could roll out (bottle of pasta sauce in one case).
I bought a foldable canvas case from Amazon and stored it in the trunk. Problem solved.
I still use that case in my MME. It has two compartments to store bags and solid items I store on the mat. I never have used the frunk. Cost $32

I owned a Prius Prime prior to my owning the MME.

When I opended the trunk anything in the trunk would roll out.

I found a bag for $32 at Amazon that enable me to store crocery bags in it. Problem solved.

It is in my MME now and I alwaus use it for bags. Hard items are just stored in the trunk.

I have never used the frunk.

It’s frunking good. So pleased when they finally did the upgrade recently (early model). When shopping it is great for what I need. I use the trunk for various things so containers is a pain for me at times, although still have some. Road tripping is good to.

At the start there was talk of regulations and kids getting stuck. Maybe more ability liability with their insurers than much else.

I believe there's a regulation about needing 2 steps to open the hood to prevent accidental opening while driving (the MME is already capable of unintentionally opening everything while standing still). They probably just ported the ICE system over rather than design something new.
