I should know this by now but somehow don’t. Is it possible for the average EV owner or potential buyer to regularly check and track their high voltage EV battery degradation? I‘d like to be able to do this on my 2025 Mach E purchased new last October. I’d also be curious if this can be done when looking at a potential used EV or an unsold EV that’s has not found a new owner in almost a year like a 2025 Lightning sitting on my dealership’s lot. In the case of the Mach E or the Lightning is this as simple as the way I check the maximum capacity of my iPhone battery or is it a complicated test available only to a Ford tech by running a test procedure. As a person that loves electric vehicles with family and friends looking to me for advice on car purchases, I’d like to be able to know how to do this on my Mach E and other electric cars they might ask me about. I also understand it is impacted by how the battery has been treated in terms of charging rate and temperature extremes. People that take care of their batteries I would think should be able to use that data to get a better resale value just as ICE drivers often use the frequency of oil changes as an indicator of good care.
