How long does it take to build?

Went to the dealership to have a new 2025 Mach-E built. I was told it usually takes 6 to 8 weeks to get. I got a text from Ford saying the expect to start building it March 3rd. My question is, does the 6-8 weeks start then or is it from when I started?

Generally, from the order date. Once the car is built, it doesn't take long to ship. That's my experience anyway.

I also recently (Dec. 20) put an order in for a 2025 Mach E at a local dealer. I received an email from Ford this week telling me the build date is the same week as yours, March 3.

I really can't remember, but when I was notified that the production had begun, it was delivered very quickly. I'm going to say 4 weeks.

6 to 8 weeks is a canned response that most dealerships dish out, which applies to in-production vehicles with minimal lead time to production. At the start of a new model year or on vehicles with high demand, lead times are indeed longer.

Having a production week of March 3rd means you’re an estimated 6 weeks out until production to begin with. Assuming all goes well, it would probably ship from the factory by the middle of March. Then it’s typically 1 to 4 weeks until arrival at your dealership, depending on location and logistics.

My stock 2024 was produced mid Oct and reached the dealer mid Nov. I’m in Chicago. So 4 week ship time Mexico to Chicago.

As I recall, most orders get loaded on unit trains (60-70 train cars carrying 20-25 cars each) direct from Mexico to Kansas City. Then they are offloaded, kept in a rail yard till they can assemble other unit trains of various Ford autos organized by destination.

As mentioned before, order to production varies a lot by demand. Sold orders typically get priority, but only if your dealer has an allocation.

I waited 10.5 months to get my 2022 Mach-E, and I placed an order on day 1 of ford opening the book. So, sorry, but I somehow don’t feel bad for you all ??‍ ?

Does anyone know of any worksheets on this forum that are tracking orders? There use to be one.

No. We had one during covid, given we used to wait a year (like my 2022 premium). But a couple months ago I wanted to buy a new one and had access to 7 identical vehicles within a 20 mile radius. So why would I special order one and wait, when I can go to the lot and pick one?

The only reason you are doing it now is because the 2025 production only began a couple weeks back. You won’t need to special order come the spring.
