As long as it

No...
The report stated Ford tried charging the 12v using the front bumper cords but was unsuccessful. As expected, because that's not how it works. Nothing about this just enough in the battery rumour

Not sure what your issue is, but I based my comment on a Post by a pretty knowledgeable member.

There is that, or the even more unsafe version of rigging a string to open the front door.
I don’t remember that.

I need the hitch for a bike rack.
And my RWD mach-e is only allowed to tow a 750 kg trailer. But it's enough for me. I could tow my motocylce, it's ok.

Did you know that you could check your 12V battery health in your ford.com account?
- Login on ford.com
- Click on "Your account".
- Before you click on "manage your vehicle" press F12 on your keyboard to open developer tools in your browser (I am using firefox, should also work with chrome).
- Click "network" --> xhr --> Answer
- click on "manage" in your account
- look for api.pd01e.... or status?countryCode=us and click on that
- On the right site you should see battery and batteryStatusActual
This is the value what the voltage is.
In my case my car was in use on Saturday for a short drive in my town.
Voltage is above 13V. Should be good.

Wow, Thanks Lars! Takes a bit in Chrome to find the status but it works. If car is on or charging it shows the LVB charging voltage of course. Also delayed since that last time the server connected to the car.

Wow! I didn’t know about that problem.
In theory it’s fixed, but also in theory you’re supposed to be able to open the door (if not locked) by double clicking the button.

But seems there have been situations where every fail safe, well seems to fail.

And an emergency key hole somewhere.
I just added an Equinox EV to my garage, and it does have that (just under the tailgate, next to where the latch switch is)...too bad Ford didn't include the same thing.

Is there a reasonable way to retrofit something similar to the Mach E?

Or know how to get into the frunk and jump the 12v
How? I have holes drilled in the frunk panel for easy access to 12v.

1. How do I open the frunk manually from the front bumper access point?
2. what do I do once the frunk is opened and I have access to the 12v?

Read the entire thread. Still not clear about what I can do to prepare for this event. Seems like the only solution is to actively replace the 12v every 3 years or use the brick in an emergency. Also have a toddler and an infant.
Turning off any auto-lock functions may help.

When the 12V battery fails, Ford's design to get into the vehicle was so well thought out, that owner's on a message board had to come up with a string/rope mechanical solution.

Big brains at Ford.

Meanwhile most other cars have a simple solution that involves............a mechanical key!

Just had my HVJB recall done 2 weeks ago and since its ā€˜21 and 3.7 years old i had them replace the 12v battery on precaution. Hopefully I’m good for another 3 years. I also did the cutouts in the panels in the frunk for easier access to the 12v jump locations.

You can test a battery several different ways and it could pass them all, yet fail utterly tomorrow.
I guess that explains why Ford can't alert drivers of a failing battery. Apparently the technology is not here yet to determine the state of the LVB. ICE cars win again, their batteries can be tested.

In production Ford certainly could modify one of the doors or the liftgate with a lock cylinder an manual actuator for a future model year, but absent being forced by a regulatory authority I donā€˜t see that happening at present as no injuries or deaths have been reported yet, and it usually takes a bunch before car companies make a mid cycle safety change.

Post manufacture, as in customer mod or third party product, or even by Ford? I don’t see how without drilling into the liftgate itself posing water ingress, paint, and corrosion concerns as Ford made the liftgate out of relatively few parts and there isn’t a convenient plastic fairing of reasonable size you could swap out that also has a hole behind it. It’s a pretty clean liftgate design.
